Will there be any time to come home and see family once Airborne school(Ft Benning) is over and SOPC/SFAS(Ft Bragg) begins?

I couldn't tell by looking at my orders, and the recruters do not know either.

Thanks!

Haven't been an 18X but from dealing with the pipeline I think most answers you will hear will be "depends" I have friends that went from SOPC straight to SFAS, some went from SOPC to leave than SFAS, some went from SFAS right to the Q, some did not, depends on school availability and time lines, I have had some friends recently that got selected than (this is Guard) sent back to home unit waiting for a class date for the Q (some have waited 3-5 months)

Whatever you do, if you get leave from SOPC before SFAS don't get in trouble, I know 2 kids one was hot on a piss test and another was a DUI while on leave before SFAS, both dropped from the program pronto...

Be prepared for SOPC, they will work your balls into the ground..but you will be physically prepared...just don't get the 18X attitude that some 18X's get..

I know there is a list of items that I have to bring to SOPC, so I 'ass-u-me' there will be a slight break between programs to gather them up.

Thanks for the info. So I guess it's just a 'depends' thing and there is no definate answer?

I just graduated from Airborne about a month ago. The 18X's left for Bragg the same day we graduated. From my understanding they then went to SOPC Hold. This is just what happened in my experience.

My buddy has had zero PTDY since he started the pipeline. He waited until xmas exodus to move his stuff.

He went right from Airborne school to SOPC, then waited about a week to start selection. Now he is in a bubble to start language school for a couple more days.

Yeah you might get a "break" but I doubt you will get a chance to go home. It all kind of depends on the timing, you may get to go right from one phase to the next (assuming you make it to the next phase) with only a few days break but more likely you will find yourself with several weeks till the next phase, which will be spent on work details.

Generally speaking...don't count on it. You'll get time to spend with your family when you "officially" PCS to Bragg after completion of SFAS

The way the Q-course is run these days their is little down time between phases. Even soldiers who are married arent getting a chance to move family or "stuff" untill they are a ways into the course. I would just focus on the training you have coming up :)

As already mentioned don't count on it. If you get the time great but keep a clear head and don't do anything stupid. I didn't get anytime off after jump school, pack duffle bag and got on the bus immediately for Bragg for a PT/Swim test.

No SFAS for me as I predated that. My son did have to do the SFAS thing and I decided to retire after he gradulated . I did JM him into Robin Sage where I was a instructor (different team). I'm a QP with the same log in over at PS.com and know TS from our enlisted days in 5th. Use the search..........and good luck.

I just went through as an 18x but was injured at SFPC and was med dropped. Im awaiting orders for an infantry unit once I get an RTD. The day you graduate Airborne you will immediately, in maybe 2 or 3 hours, get on a bus for Bragg. Hopefully, you get there friday night and get the weekend off to settle in. Come monday you begin inprocessing and as the week rolls in you'll spend plenty of time running up this ridiculous hill outside the SFPC barracks and doing front-back go's. Good news is weekends are off and after release on friday there isn't any more formations until sunday night(use that information as you will). Days usually begin at 0615 and consist of PT followed by much of nothing until afternoon PT then your released until the nightly formation. You will probably spend three weeks at hold until the next class, come back and go to SFAS one week later on that Saturday, so don't expect a weekend off to see family. After SFAS you will immediately report to CLT hold. If you are not married and have a family you will absolutely not get TDY. Hope that helps. Word of advice, find a way to get your vehicle up or make friends with someone who has one. Otherwise you will lose your mind being stuck in the barracks all the time. Hope that helps
