What's the "market" like in NYS?

Albany county specifically.

Graduated with a business degree and not sure if it's what I want to end up doing. This has always been on the back burner.

What is hiring like? I hear a lot of bad stories...

My advice to you is to leave it on the back burner or forget it all together considering these quotes from your other job seeking threads in GD.

I don't have any debt.
I had a decent internship and a pretty good resume, but no solid "experience" in anything related to my degree.
I won't do any manual labor/trades.
I'd like to find a company that will pay crappy but provide a training program; something like management or sales. I believe Enterprise car rental has a pretty good one...any others?

Police jobs are hardly the laborers union. I don't know many cops trying to get jobs hanging Sheetrock as a full time gig.

If you "don't want to get dirty" then police work is not for you.

If nothing else, take the civil service test. It'll give you practice for taking other tests for jobs that you might actually like.

I had a body bag pop on me this morning. Bye bye uniform, bye bye socks, and bye bye extra pair of boots. Biohazard is just a whole 'nother level of dirty.

/hijack, just thought I would toss that out.

I assume your dept replaces stuff rendered unserviceable in the line of duty?

We had a pedestrian get run over one time and my friend was helping ems lift the stretcher into the back of the ambulance. Just as they lifted a big chunk of grey matter oozed out of the hole in his head and landed on my friend's arm. The look on his face was priceless.

I'm only asking because in some agencies the officer literally has to buy everything.

If the dept replaces it then its an inconvenience in the short term. If not, he's out more than $60

It went into the incinerator, all of it. I went back into the house and had one of my guys drive back to the office and grab my gym gear. I put on my shorts and t-shirt, then walked back to the PD. Hey, nice day out, why not. Took a verrrrrry hot shower, called employee health to see if i needed to do any additional cootie paperwork, and then put on my extra uniform. Thankfully I recently had the sense to order a third uniform, which is now my second one. We don't have a fixed uniform allowance, but are required to have at least two serviceable sets at any given time, and they are pretty good at getting us what we need. Barring that, I note that my squad wears 5.11 TDU's, which are not hard to find.

We are in the midst of switching to 5.11s. Its the 5th uniform changeand the third patch change in the last 12 years.

I have heard complaints about the color fading, but I am just not seeing it. The TDU's are tough as hell and will tak a beating that would shred the average poly. If I had my pick, I would go with the TacLites in a nanosecond.

Our 5.11 fade really bad. Mine started as dark blue and in less then 4 months are a slightly dark shade of purple. We do have the option of getting Popper, but those seem to ripe pretty easy in my job. I guess we are just harder on uniforms then some....

Yep. I don't WANT to get dirty, but I don't terribly mind if I do. If you're a germaphobe or easily disgusted by really dirty environments or horrible smells, then you won't make it out of FTO.

This. It sounds like you're just looking for a job. If this doesn't burn in your heart, walk away.
