Birthday gift question, your input would be appreciated.

Hello ladies, I have a question about a gift and I was wondering if you would be gracious enough to offer your opinion.
My girlfriend's birthday is coming up and I'm planning on getting her a necklace but I'm not sure what length chain to get. I've already picked the pendant.
She wears necklaces often and in a bunch of different lengths from chokers with very small pendants with her jeans and regular clothes to long ones with larger pendants that she wears when she gets really dresses up. It doesn't seem like she has a preference.
I was thinking of getting her something in between like a 20" chain. Would this be too long with a 1.25" pendant or should I go with something shorter? Maybe 18"?
I figured being women you'd have your own preferences and insights that I might not have considered. If you have other suggestions I'm open to those too.

It is 1.25" long, not very big.
Her other necklaces range from small cheaper ones to nicer long ones.
An example would be a a choker length (I'm assuming 16") with a thin chain and a carved wooden pendant. Its ok with jeans and stuff but not for dressing up.
Another has a very long chain (~30") with a large heart pendant (maybe 2" across and 0.5" deep). She wears that with dresses sometimes.
She has a few in between but they're cheaper friendship/craft type ones. She doesn't have a nicer necklace that she could wear with both casual and nice outfits.

That's beautiful! If you look at my bio pic, the chain I'm wearing is 18" long and the pendant on it is 3/4". If your GF is really small it'll likely hang a little lower on her, but not by a lot (I'm guessing). I think an 18" chain would be perfect.

Looks like 18" is the way to go.

Ok, it depends on her boobs, really. I have to wear shorter necklaces or they just get wedged between mine. 
Make sure it is an appropriate length for her chest and the type of clothing she typically wears.

Make sure it is an appropriate length for her chest and the type of clothing she typically wears.A necklace wouldn't really get wedged in there unless it was on the longer side. Probably over 22" I'm guessing.

I'm going to go with 18" also. That's how long mine are.
