I was watching Lawrence of Arabia on tv, and it piqued my interest. 
I've always been interested in that area of the world, and read a bit on the internet on the subject.
That being said, do y'all have any recommendations for a good read on that part of the world from around the Zulu wars until post World War One?
Any info, videos, websites, books and the like would be greatly appreciated.

Khartoum, The Ultimate Imperial Adventure, Michael Asher. The author is an ex-SAS trooper. This book is a great read about an early Muslim jihad in the Sudan and Brits campaign from Egypt to save General "Chinese" Gordon. Winston Churchill made a famous charge here when he was 21. Great read.
King Leopold's Ghost , Adam Hochschild - the true story of the Congo that inspired Joseph Conrad to write Heart of Darkness.
Mimi and Toutou's Big Adventure, Giles Foden. True WWI story that inspire "The African Queen." Talks about the German colony in what is now Tanzania.
Those are three that I read that were pretty good, maybe not the best, but good nonetheless. Khartoum was really good.

James Morris' trilogy on the British Empire. Titles escape me at the moment. Look it up on Amazon. You may need to use Jan Morris. He/she had some identity issues. Got writer tho.

Against all odds is a great place to start short concise stories of famous last stands most in colonial areas.......
Scramble for Africa...it is a HUGE book but worth the read.
