DISCLAIMER: I am NOT saying that I want to, or even have a reason to do this, I am merely wanting to know.

Anyway, like the title says, would it be legal, or illegal to paint the muzzle of a real gun orange, so that at a glance somebody might think it's an airsoft gun, or maybe even just a toy?

State law may vary but I don't know of any federal laws that prohibit it. NJ actually has a bill in the works to make it a crime

I already specified NO, I have no desire to do this, I only want to know if it would be legal to do if somebody did want to.
