anyone know much about this? i read an article in the book of ak and in the article about california legal ak's it said active duty on orders only needed to worry about there home state as far as regulations. but i couldnt find anything saying that. i might not be looking in the right place.

SCRA shouldn't cover anything like that.

Here is the form that you have to fill out as and Active Duty member to register your assault weapons
I have heard, and this is not confirmed in any way shape or form, the only thing that is changed for AD members PCSing to CA is that they can register new Assault Weapons that would otherwise not be allowed, ie OLL AR-15s and AKs.

If you ask in the CA HTF you will probably get a better answer than the speculation and hearsay above.

this is exaclty what it says in the article

"so, youre in the military and you just got orders to relocate to california. dont panicjust yet. you can legally bring your ak with you.

the active-duty military members right o bear arms is protected under the servicemembers civil relief act, formerly known as the soldiers and sailors relief act.

the intent of the law is that, while the serviceman may physically live in a restricted state like CA because its his assigned duty station, under federal law he still legally reside in his home state, which may not carry the same restrictions. therefore the local CA or other restricted states gun laws largely do not apply to him."

it goes on to say some specifics about CA (like they have to do the CA special weapons permit) but that section i quoted says it should apply to any restricted state.

for example i have a friend stationed in NJ and he wants to bring his AR with him. if its legal in his home state, it should be a non-issue according to this article.

i have several friends who would like this info verified and somehting they could print out and shrink down for their wallets.
