Serious question. Bought a hundred or so pounds when it was on sale couple years ago and been using it as we go. Just pulled some out (post winter) and getting it going with some fatwood and it just dawned on me that I had no idea. Anyone know ?

Most people have no idea it's sawdust!

There are a couple of factories that make charcoal in central MO... that dust gets everywhere!

But yeah, it's just compressed saw dust. If it won't light, it's bad. Other than that you are good to go!

It WILL absorb water, then it takes longer to ignite. This is with briquettes as they have minerals added (lime) to bind, along with cornstarch. And yes, they can disintegrate when they get too wet.
