My toe-nail just got ripped off my foot

Holy fuck. I was walking with flipflops when one of my feet slipped. The other one smashed into the curb right and proceeded to rip most of my big toe-nail out of the nail bed. Now, it is only connected to my toe by the base. Blood was everywhere but I managed to practically drag myself to the medical center where I was informed that I'll probably lose that nail

Damn that hurt

That must have hurt. I Tend to stub my toes alot and have ripped off many a toe-nail. I used to get ingrown toenails on my big toes alot. Once they got infected and a foot specialist had to cut the nails out. The novacaine wore off halfway through the second toe.

I posted about the same thing here four years and two weeks ago. The advice I got was to protect the nail bed. It took about 18 months for the nail to grow back completely. I was in a lot of pain for about two months after it happened. I'd suggest not trying to save the nail, but if you're determined to try make sure you cut it as short as possible. It will probably catch on something and come-off the rest of the way or fall off on its own.z

So the pain doesn't go away for that long?

Took me about 6 months to regrow a thumbnail after it was smashed and had to be removed. Cleaning it was a pain, too.

I was moving a big heavy couch while barefooted and moved the couch into my left big toe nail, hurt like a sombitch. Part of it turned completely white, the red where it was still attached, over the next day or so I wiggled it and finally whole damned thing came off.

Took about a year for it to grow back and it didn't grow back like it was before, it's more round from side to side.

Fun part was watching it grow back, the first growings, the nail was yellow and lumpy, finally started looking normal

Cool. Was there a lot of pain while it was growing back?

My toenail was ripped off when I was in the Marine Corps. Roomie was banging on the door, when I got up to open it, he had apparently put down what he had in his hand and foot met door as he swung it open.

I'll admit it. I think I fainted.

JK. it just hurt like holy hell.

yea so it hurts pretty bad right now. The nail is basically only hanging on by the base, and there is some fluid underneath the nail as well. Its currently wrapped in a dressing. Should I just let it fall off on its own? Or should I pull it off myself?

If ya yank it, that requires VIDEO for us to see. LoL. Do it like a Bandaid, one swift yank.

Let the nail bed heal for a week or so then cut off the toenail if it doesn't fall off on it's own. You'll be fine. I had a pallet with a protruding nail fall on my left thumb, puncture it at the cuticle and I yanked at the same time it made contact. Took a better part of a year to grow out. Then our Macaw bit me and punctured my right thumb in the cuticle, about a third of the nail has flaked off. As a child I was always slamming the car door on my thumbs & losing the nails.
