In rifles, 25.06. I've killed plenty of deer and coyotes with this caliber.
In handguns - 9mm. No doubt their. I don't really care for the 9, but it is underrated.

I am a 45 guy no doubt. I have one 9mm, and three 45's. But a lot of people around here act like the 9mm just bounces off people.

For rifles, .264 Magnum. For pistols, 9mm. People act like a 9mm pistol is a ping-pong gun or something.

I'd agree. Disparaged far out of proportion considering its actual weaknesses.

I have personally seen what .45 FMJ did (or rather did not do) to my friend's leg. I re-assessed my carrying needs from a 454 casull to an ar pistol in .50 beowulf after that.

what's my line, guys?

Never trust your life to a 9mm unless it has a selector switch

That said, I'd say 22 lr is the most under-rated caliber. It's caused many, many deaths.

(Having said that I'll resolve the discrepancy between my .22 vote and 9mm trash talking... Killing hardly = stopping the assailent before he can return the favor)

Interesting Read

From the Link:

.25 ACP
The Gold Dot design expands quite consistently, but the bullets penetrate between 7 - 8 inches. This is inadequate penetration. This is not a condemnation of the Gold Dot bullet, all expanding .25 ACP bullets exhibit inadequate penetration.

We recommend a 50 grain full metal jacket bullet. Although the aerodynamic design of the semi-pointed FMJ bullet does not wound as efficiently as an expanding bullet, an FMJ bullet will at least penetrate deeply enough to reliably reach, and crush a hole in, vital tissues from any shooting engagement angle.

I own a little 25 Sundance, but have often worried if it would be enough...

Any of the "weaker" cartridges.

There are a lot of gun people that seem to think that recoil and noise are the primary killing mechanisms of firearms. Lots of people are stupid in that way, I think.

Anybody that thinks that a 9mm is for people that can't handle a .45 is silly, or has arthritic wrists or something. After having shot 9mm for a while, when I had my first experience with .45 (Sig 220) I was severely disappointed. If you listened to enough Internet bad boys (like I did, unfortunately) you would think the .45 will be entirely uncontrollable.

I really didn't see it, honestly. Not a whole helluva lot manlier to shoot, and only somewhat more effective per shot than 9mm, given identical shot placement.

Any gun'll kill you dead. Just some are a little more effective and have better range than others.

As I understand it, the .25 ACP was John Browning's answer for a reliable shirt-pocket sized auto without the headache of making the rimmed .22 LR feed reliably from a magazine.

Of course, this was long before Seecamp and Kel-Tec figured out how to make .32 and .380 work out of a similar-size package.

9mm is only underrated by people who don't know alot about how defense handguns work.

22lr is the most popular round ever. I don't think it can possibly be underrated.

I think 10mm is the most underrated although its use is narrow it is a great caliber it fills that use like no other round can.

One more for the mighty .22LR. People underestimate this round to the point of equating it to a bb gun.

.41 Rem. Mag. BTW- IMHO, the 9mm round is just fine for a defensive round, if you know what you are doing. There's a reason that SEALs use the 9mm P226... it is a good round and they know how to knock bad guys' on their ass with it.
