What would arfcom do?
We have an elder family friend. She is in her 80's and lives by herself in her house with no real family around. Anyways we talk to her everyday to make sure shes ok, etc. Well she had this favorite chair of hers that was broken so she called the local fix it guy to come pick it up, and repair it. She paid him while he was there to pick it up(First mistake). A month has gone by and this guy has not returned the chair or any of her phone calls. Shes contacted the police about it and the guy made up all sorts of excuses and said he would have it fixed this past weekend. You guessed it, still no chair or phone calls. Police officer that is on the case is on vaca for a few days. She doesn't even want the money back anymore she just wants her favorite chair back whether its fixed or not. I know where this dudes shop is and I drove by a few times and it looks like no ones ever there working. Thinking about dropping in there to see what the deal is. WWAD?
Arfcom would ask for pics.

80's you say?

Buy the fix it guy a bus ride to mexico

Stop by the shop, ask for the chair and her money back. Leave with both.
I've found its best to slowly ratchet up my assholishness in those kinda situation. Some times all it takes is crossed arms and eye contact to resolve the situation. If that doesn't work, you should pee on his leg.
not sure if serious
arfcom would say....

that
then go to the diy forum and ask how to fix it for her
give back chair and money - and don't let her pay you for it.....
Stencil a BFL on the chair when you get it back

Get the chair back and either fix it myself or find someone who can do it quickly. Deal with the asshole later myself and not worry the elderly lady.

What state are you in? If it's Colorado, I can do woodworking furniture repair, I have my own small shop. I will help fix it if you can get it back.
KOTB
Would I have to come out of my basement? Is there a possibility there might be a vagina nearby? If so Ill be at home with mom

Go get the fuckin chair.
Offer a 6-pack of Budweiser to take the chair and her money off his hands, no questions asked, no problems.
Then you fix the chair, and return both.
If she demands that you be paid, ask for a 6-pack of your favorite beer.
You just worked to convert Bud into good beer.
little things are important to old people and children (ask me how I know). I would just stop in at the shop and politely inquire. If the chair isn't done, tell him politely that you'll take it as is (along with her money) and if that doesn't work, let him know that an emergency room visit is probably going to cost more than his profit anyway and that when the cop gets back from vaca, he'll probably help you clean up the mess. All over a chair...sheeesh.
