iPad question on using wireless internet connection....
Got my wife an iPad 2 for Xmas.
It has an odd habit of dropping the wireless connection in our house. Our android phones, and our Sony Playstation don't
ever do this (same wireless network). Is this something peculiar with iPads or is it some setting I should be checking?
The only reliable thing I've found that works it to turn off the wireless connection (turn it off on the iPad) and then turn it
back on. It gets annoying as hell turning it on and off all the time to get the wireless connection to "reconnect". In reality,
the wireless never really goes down, the iPad just "loses it" or some other wierd shit.
I think I've about convinced myself that my next tablet purchase will be an android based tablet (for work).

I think that is just apple. Both our iphones, and the ipad do that shit.
I've heard of this before, but I have no problems with mine at home or work. Wireless at home and work is Cicso. What are you using for a wireless router?
turn off auto connect.
I had problems with an iphone that used to do that. I just had to replace the wireless antenna and the problem went away. I have to warn you however, once I got into that old phone I had doubts I was going to get itback together again as I had a lot of VERY tiny screws, clips, etc that were removed to get to the antena in the iphone. My kids were taking bets that I would never get the phone back together and working but I did and the phone lasted an extra year or more before I upgraded it!
Not saying that is your issue, but once I replaced my antena it solved my issues again on the iphone 3gs as opposed to an IPAD.

I have the new iPad, typing on it now, and mine never drops the connection on any wireless network I can connect to.

same for my Ipad
once a day approx
you need to set static IP's on your internal network. We have 3 IPads, 3 apple tv's, 3 iphones, 2 IMac's, one macbook pro, one PC, 2 ps3's, 2 xboxes online at anytime feeding off a switch and 2 wireless routers and nothing ever drops.
Also if you are using a dual band router make sure you use the 2.4ghz for the apple stuff, some of it isnt compatiable with 5ghz yet.
Here is the full set of instructions from Apple [AAPL] to help you resolve the issues...
Symptoms:
Under certain conditions, iPad may not automatically rejoin a known Wi-Fi network after restart or waking from sleep. This can occur with some third-party Wi-Fi routers that are dual-band capable when:
* Using the same network name for each network
* Using different security settings for each network
Resolution:
If you encounter this issue, try the following:
* Create separate Wi-Fi network names to identify each band. This can be done easily by appending one or more characters to the current network name. (Example: Add a G to the 802.11b/g network name and an N to the 802.11n network name.)
* Ensure that both networks use the same security type (WEP, WPA, WPA2, and so on)
* If the issue persists, reset your network settings using Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: Always ensure that your Wi-Fi router firmware is up to date.

iPad2 has 5GHz compatibility.
Never had that issue with my Apple stuff. I would not have know it was common....
