WIfe and I looking to move, any ideas?
My wife and I are about to finish our undergraduate work and apply for med school. We live in AZ now and like it, but are looking for a change. Our wish list is a place with all four seasons and friendly to un owners and NFA items. Where are you guys at, and what is it like?
Thanks
Mark
Colorado is full. Sorry.

University of Virginia, in Charlottesville. Great school, great area to live in. State is very gun-friendly.
Whereever you get into med school.
Kharn
New Hampshire has all four seasons, sometimes you get all four in the same day.
If I could tolerate cold weather I'd look into colorado, new hampshire, and oregon, but I've never been to any of them.
I live in Missouri. It gets hot as hell in summer, cold as hell in the winter. Beautiful spring and fall. Big deer, good mix of city and country. Lots of freedom and smiling people. It's got ups and doowns
CA has four seasons. Much of it is beautiful and you have access to beaches, mountains, deserts and forests. Gun laws suck here, though.

Pretty much. Oh and I predict you guys will be sorry with your career choice.

I like NFA toys.
UW-Madison has a respectable med school.
Texas only has Summer, Summer, Fall, and Summer.... sorry.

Hmmmm, pics not loading.
Let me consult my PDR...

Yeah, I'd be choosing where I live by the school, not the other way around.
Edited because I can't type worth a damn.

Yeah...pretty much. Just making a list of all the states that we would apply in at first pick. But if the only place I can get in happens to be in Nogunastan CA guess where my new address will be.
Try Indiana, on the Southern side. We have great gun laws here (minus short barreled shotguns for some reason), and Knob Creek is just over the border in Kentucky.

Sorry.... I haven't been on this forum in quite a while. I forgot the rules....

MD

SW Idaho. "Shall issue", Class-3 friendly (we have night-time FA tracer shoots at the local range) and RTKBA protected in the State Constitution. We get all 4 seasons but not to the extrames (a couple of weeks of 100F+ during the summer, usually some snow in winter but not enough that you look out the window asking "where's my car???").

Another vote for New Hampshire.
Safe place (generally) to raise kids and access to Boston based resources without the requirement to have to live in Massachusetts.
We are NFA friendly. No state income or sales tax, but you will have high property taxes if you want a McMansion.
As a matter of full disclosure the winters are too damn long, but that is the way it goes.
The White Mountains are beautiful to hike in the summer months. Portsmouth is a fun little town on the coast that has some nice bars and restaurants.
Pennsylvania or Virginia would fit your needs.
NC. Raleigh or Charlotte. You won't get the full shit of Winter but just enough for you to enjoy spring.
NW Arkansas

Plus you get to ask your Sheriff if you are allowed to buy handguns.
Head north...
Under no circumstances should you even consider the shit hole known as Maryland.
You're welcome!
Ca is exactly what you want.

lol.
I am in PA. We have all four seasons and I have lots of NFA items. CCW is also very easy to get.
I can't complain.
VA, one of the best gun states for the most part. The background checks get a little funky sometimes.
Indiana. Cost of living is great and there should be plenty of employment opportunities in your field.
If you don't mind colder weather, and can find a good job I'd vote for Oregon or Idaho.

I lived in PA until I was 13. I am seriously liking the University of Pittsburgh.
I'd suggest Colorado, but if I were to leave, it would be to New Hampshire.

I actually live about 25mins of Pittsburgh. I am a PSU grad, so I don't like Pitt.
I have always been intrigued by Tennessee.
I visited once when I was pretty young and really enjoyed it.
No clue about their gun laws though.

Not with a ccw. Can you get those in ny?

If you want seasons why not just move up to Flagg?
Otherwise Montana.

He won't have any issues if he's not black. Wasn't that the original point of the laws?

Wyoming
When we move in a few years, Mrs. MOUTguru and myself have narrowed it down to Orange Beach Alabama or to a very large plot of land in Wyoming.
Realistically? If you both want med school, you have to go to central america.
Detroit, downtown - they need the business.

This is the correct answer.
Also...if you have a choice, go to the cheapest area to live (with a school with reasonable reputation.....Residency slots are tougher to get....if they were wide open, I'd say go with the cheapest school at the cheapest place to live). Taking out huge loans to pay for school....then more to pay for an expensive area to live isn't a good idea (Ask me how I know.....

).

PA of course

Philly has a buttload of med schools. PA is relatively gun friendly with 4 seasons. You could commute from the 'burbs to avoid philly taxes and asshattery. 2 hours to beach, NYC and what passes for mountains in this end of the continent. Parts of the city are very cool and it's a foodie mecca if you're into that sort of thing. World class sports, art museums, etc..
You could do worse.

I don't think you could've picked two places any more different from each other. Have you ever been to WY? The wind doesn't stop blowing, and trees....what are those. That's the first two things that come to my mind.

Wife to California
You move to Texas

Exactly!!
Of the Ivy League medical schools, I think the University of Pennsylvania might be the only one that meets his list. Harvard is in MA, Columbia is in NYC and Cornell's medical school is also in NYC. I don't know if Yale (CT), Brown (RI) or Princeton (NJ) have medical schools, but all those states are not exactly gun-friendly. Dartmouth is in NH but not sure if it has a medical school. Penn Med is usually ranked in the top 5 of medical schools in the nation so OP would do very well here.
ETA: There are other elite medical schools but I'm not familiar with them. Johns Hopkins is in Baltimore, MD and that's certainly not gun friendly.
There's a book out there called STRATEGIC RELOCATION. Check it out, he seems to analyze EVERYTHING important.

Nebraska.

Hmmm, it just so happens that my house here in Central MO is for sale.

Good luck with wherever you choose.
