Are you allowed to drink on your 21st birthday?

This may sound like a stupid question but:

Say you turn 21 on Saturday, can you go the the bar Friday at midnight and drink?

I've also heard that some states you can't legally drink till the next day, this sounds like bullshit to me.

Anybody know anything about this?

No, have to wait 24hrs.

I went to the bar at midnight, had a cool waiter say she couldn't serve that same evening, but would anyways since it was my Bday

In MS you can. I did it. Even pointed my birthdate out to the officer who responded to the bar fight...

North Dakota passed a law against it, I believe. They discourage "power hours".

It becomes your birthday at midnight, doesn't it? Of course you can drink and if you do it right, you can drink for free (I did, and got torn-out-the-frame drunk without spending a dime).

ETA: The rumor around these parts was liquor stores would sell to you the day before your birthday as well, but I have no idea if that's true.

We took my brother to a liquor store the day before his 21st, and the guy said he would sell to him then. My mom bought it for him anyway though, since he didn't have any ID.

That's how I see it. When I turned 21 I drank the day of my birthday but I didn't do the midnight thing.

I had my first drink at a bar at 12:01 am the morning of my birthday. Bouncer bought me a shot after seeing my ID.

I went to the Cowboy Club in Old Town, downtown Wichita on the night before my birthday.

I went to the doorman at midnight, handed him back my ID and said, I'm 21, I want my band.

He looked at his watch and said we better call time and temp just to be sure. So he did, and it was 11:58. He made me wait the 2 minutes.

He put the band about half way around my wrist and stopped, he asked, what time were you born on the 20th?

I said STRAIGHT UP MIDNIGHT, GIMME ME BAND FUCKER!

So he did.

I did this on my 21st. Bouncer looked at my ID, looked at his watch, said 'happy birthday", and let me in.

Because +-24 hours a man changes substantially at his 21st birthday. Drinking law is stupid IMHO.

Me and all my friends down here in Texas did that last year.
At midnight, it's technically your birthday.

Looks like the 3rd world is more like the old west story where if you could peek over the bar you could get a drink.

You can, at least in Nevada. One trip there, a guy from my squadron turned 21 while there, and started drinking right after midnight.

We were nice, and gave him the next day off to recover.

I think in VA the flood gates open on the day before your BD.

(I can't remember if I drank the day before or on the day.)

Well, even though Mexico says 18 I have been served at 13 and 14 with no question or hesitation. One time the bouncer did make me go home because I had shorts on, I came back with pants on and he even waved me past the people in line.

As to the OP here in Ohio midnight on your birthday is GTG

I did in VA. Went to the bar at about 1145. Had a coke, watched the game on TV, had a smoke and at 1201 I asked for a Guiness. Bar tender asked for my ID, looked at it poured me a glass and said it was on him. Good times.

I just went to my small hometown bar the night I turned 21. They let me in no questions asked, it was actually the bartender that made me come up there in the first place haha. This don't really help your question though since I had been drinking in that bar since I was 18!

The law was 18 when I started going to bars at age 16. Way back then. If I was 18 now, I'd be pissed. Or sober

It works in PA.

If you are 21 on the 10th and the 10th starts at 12:01, why shouldn't it apply?

My baby sister did it 2 years ago. My little brother and I met her at a bar/nightclub for her first legal drinks after 12 midnight.

Shiner is the shit man! They finally started carrying it in cans in Iowa a couple weeks ago. Around the same time they started carrying 12 packs of bottles up here too. It sucked going into the store and buying six or seven 6'ers

When I turned 18, I walked up to the bar, handed the bartender my driver's license, and asked for my free pitcher. Since I had been drinking there all night and for months earlier, he wasn't too happy. He still gave me my free beer.

Every bar tender I have talked to here said they cant because you weren't 21 when they opened for business that day. I know I didn't because I had a few exams the next day. Still doesn't seem right but they say thats how it is.

durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...............

i think it's illegal NOT to drink on your birthday. quit worrying and go get drunk you fag!

i had my first legal drink wearing this ghey as fuck monkey suit because I was scheduled to rip tickets at the cinema that day. that was a college job that kept me from starving to death. popcorn and stolen kit kats, a fine meal.

imagine trying to bulldoze crowds of "angry disadvantaged youth" looking like orville redenbacker in a friggin blue bow tie.

In Florida you can (or could at least). The day I turned 21 my Girlfriend took me out to a bar for my first legal drink. She was still only 20 so it was soda for her. She bought me a drink and told me it was over, she was leaving town in the morning and didn't want me to try and contact her ever again. She got up, left the restaurant and left me there with my first legal drink (it was a some kind of pilsner). Happy fucking birthday

FWIW- I spoke to her that night (before she hung up on me) and I spoke to her about six months later when she called to say that she was happier than she had ever been in her life but she was sorry if she had hurt me. Beyond that I never heard from her again or founfd out where she went.
