OMG I think my dog swallowed an avacado pit...

My Boxer was choking on something and we noticed the avocado hull from the avocado that had been thrown away on the floor. I opened his mouth to see what he was choking on and pushed the back of his tongue down and he quit choking. I can only find 1 of the avocado pits in the garbage and the other one is MIA. I think he swallowed it. What can/should I do if anything? I am worried about intestinal blockage because it was a pretty big seed. God I hope he doesn't end up needing surgery for this!!!!

Not going to be a pretty sight when he strains it out of the other end. My Choc lab did the same thing with a peach pit a few weeks ago. Call your vet asap.

only one way to know for sure, call the police and say you are not going down without a fight and hang up.

after the dogs autopsy you'll know.

j/k

call a vet silly, not ARFCOM

There is an old joke about a monkey at a zoo sticking everything he ate up his ass before eating it. When a guy asked the zookeeper why he did that, the zookeeper replied that the monkey was guaging everything he ate. When the guy asked why, the zookeeper replied that he ate a whole peach before.

Everything will come out OK in the end.

If he swalloed it and is no longer choking you are fine. he will be fine. Dont panic.

My grandparents owned a avacado orchard and had a yellow lab that would eat 10- 15 avacados a day off the ground. Pit and all.. Never hurt her, made her fat as all get out but never any damage. As long as your pup is breathing ok and does not seem distressed no worries.

Unfortunately, right now I don't have $ for the vet visit. I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences or knew of any issues it could potentially cause.

At least an avacado pit is smooth, and slippery. A peach pit is ribbed, and rough. OUCH.
I guess you have to insert some sort of math equation here.

Bigger smooth pit
Vs.
Smaller rough pit

What's worse the size or the texture?? Only the dogs butthole will tell.

my dog eats all shorts of crap he shouldn't chances are he'll be fine.

the only things that cause obstructions are sharp/pointy and get stuck

At least it wasnt an order of onion rings.

I will get banned if I tell that story. Who wants to hear it?

The pit should pass. Just keep an eye out for vomiting, this may point to an obstruction.

I had an APBT that was essentially a self propelled stomach-she ate EVERYTHING. Rocks, food, eggshells, a sock-she once saw a mouseball I dropped-before I could get to it, schlorp! Right down it went. Had to buy a new mouse-sure as fuck didn't want the old mouseball back.

My little GSD ate glass, drank paint, and all kinds of crap when we were remodeling. She just didnt have any common sense (2 months old), and would sneak away to cause trouble.
Anyway she was perfectly fine. Dogs are pretty hearty dont worry but you may need to talk to the vet.

I've had a dog pass a roll of medical gauze.

Kids plastic toys.

Two feet of three feet of berber carpet she puled up and ate. (Had to scoot around the yard to get the last foot out)

An entire maxi-pad.

And a crushed, but still recognizable potato.

Dogs. Sheesh.

Just keep an eye on it, something smooth and slippery like an Avacado pit will probably pass.

He will soon have an avacdo tree sprouting from his ass.

Damn, I'm not the only one who thought "Better an avocado pit than a peach pit!".

Watch carefully for leaves growing out of his ass.

My sister had a chocolate lab that used to swallow golf balls that he found in the yard. Bout a week later he'd find them again, and eat them again.

Avocado seed? I wouldn't worry too much.

But most of the fat in an avocado is monounsaturated –– the "good" kind that actually lowers cholesterol levels.

So it's OK for the dog to be fatter.

Relevant.

A man walked into a bar with his pet monkey. The bartender said, "You can't bring that monkey in here!" The man said, "Don't worry, he won't cause any trouble."

Within seconds the monkey jumped on the pool table and swallowed the cue ball. The bartender yelled, "Hey, he just ate my cue ball. No one can play pool anymore! Get out!"

The man left but came back one week later with his monkey. He apologized to the bartender and promised no more trouble. The bartender let him and the monkey stay.

Later that night, the monkey walked over to a bowl of grapes, put one in his ass, and then ate it. The bartender said, "That's disgusting! Why did he do that!"

The man said, "Since he swallowed the cue ball, he sizes everything up before he eats it."

Make sure he's outside when he tries to pass it otherwise you're likely to have a silver dollar sized hole in your sliding glass door.

I hope that er, everything comes out alright.

You might consider feeding the dog an extra meal to push it along. Call your vet, explain that you can't afford a visit right now, and just would like to confirm that it should pass alright. If they're your regular vet, they may be willing to put you on a payment plan.

But to ease the pain, start daily anus stretchings
