Hey fellow brewers! I just realized this section existed. Bought a Mr. Beer Premium on Woot for 19.95 and thought what the heck! First batch is fermenting as I type.
I do have a question. I read a lot of threads online talking about giving the fermentation process plenty of time but, I have not seen anything saying how long is too long?
Without knowing any details, too long would be upwards of about 6-8 months. The thing to worry about with letting the beer sit on the yeast for long periods of time is the breakdown and decay of the yeast. With today's quality yeasts, this takes months to happen. With a Mr. Beer, follow the directions or let is sit for 3-4 weeks and you won't have any problems.
For Mr Beer I would say let it sit for a month, then bottle and let the bottles sit for 3 weeks before consuming. You'll thank me. You can probably cheat and open a bottle after a week, then one at 2 weeks, then one at 3. You'll see the difference. That's what I did. It went from cidery, to beer plus some cider flavor, to beer.
The only thing you don't want to cheat on is letting it sit for a month. Mr beer says 2 weeks I think but you'll be better off at a month.
just edit the message. ask us where is a good place to buy 5 gallon ferminator and be done with it.
We here will save you a month of just drinking one gallon.
If you just drink one gallon, we will encourage you to have friends who will hang out at your house because u will have the kegerator.
they might even start buying the grains for u to brew (since buying ur alcohol is a bad thing in the eyes of the law).
