Poor man's toffee, or how to gain 5 pounds in 3 easy steps.....
My wife made some of this stuff this weekend, damn her.
This is better than the fanciest candy I have bought at a store, do NOT make this if you are diabetic or trying to lose weight.
An alternative to the chocolate chips could be butterscotch/white chocolate chips, or melted Almond bark, drizzled over it.
2 sticks butter
1 C brown sugar
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 C chopped nuts
Line large cookie sheet with foil.
Spray with cooking spray.
Lay saltines to cover cookie sheet.
Melt butter & sugar, bring to boil & boil for 3 mins.
Pour over crackers making sure all crackers are covered.
Bake at 350 for 5-10 mins.
Remove from oven & sprinkle chocolate chips over crackers, let stand 5 mins.
Spread chocolate evenly over crackers.
Sprinkle with chopped nuts & refrigerate ½ hrs.
Break toffee apart into pieces.
Best if kept in refrigerator.
