Etiquette question/problem with asking for a petition.
I am interested in becoming a Mason. I have been for quite some time, and now I finally am at the point where I feel the time is right for me to join. The "problem" I have is that one of my fellow managers is a Mason, and has offered in the past (last summer) to get me a petition. After visiting in depth with one of my good friends who is a Mason (In another state), I asked my co-manager to get me a petition......3 times so far. He said he wasn't into it much now, but my petitioning and going with him would get him back into Masonry. His Dad is a very active Mason, and he asked him to get me a petition in my behalf. That was in October. I have asked him several times since, and still gotten nothing.
My problem lies in the fact there is a Lodge much closer to my house, and now after asking so many times I feel like I should just stop by my local lodge and start my journey there...but I don't want to break any rules since I had already asked another Mason even though I have gotten no where with them.
All personal feelings aside, would I be wrong in pursuing my local lodge at this point after getting no response?
Thanks guys!
**and I feel like I need to say I am not a shit bird. I am an upstanding married man with a daughter, and productive member of society that is generally liked by all. The co-manager likes me and there is no reason (as far as I can tell) other than his own uninvolvement that has prevented me from getting the petition.
stop by the local lodge and get one.
not to be an ass but it could be many reasons he hasn't gotten you one...
busy
never goes to lodge
doesn't feel your a good candidate etc.
nothing stopping you from knocking on the lodge door yourself.
call your local lodge, find out when they meet and if they serve dinner before the meeting. If they do eat beforehand, they will probably invite you for dinner and to chat with you then. Ask at that point for a petition. If you feel comfortable at that lodge then please join. If you dont, then take that petition to your buddy and ask to join his lodge.
We do this quite often in my lodge. Guys attend a meal or two and we get to know them and sign their petitions.
Good luck.
Nothing is better than doing it yourself.
Ask for the tour while your there..

Put your information
here and get contact info for your local lodge
I have the info for the local lodge, and I am going to give them a call and/or stop by the lodge before the next dinner and visit with them.
My coworker had stated before that my petitioning would hopefully get him back into Masonry, and that he had not been active. He also has other personal problems giving him grief, so he really has been having tons of issues in the last few months. I just wanted to bounce it off of you guys, because I felt like the right thing to do is join my local lodge anyway.
Thanks for the replies, and the support. I hope to be posting in the forum more as a member in the future.

Ask him why he didn't get it. We'll assume that you're a stand up guy and he had personal a situation that explains why he didn't do it. Accept his answer. Masonry comes after God, family, and work. If he had other things on his mind, he may not have had the time to go get your petition.
As others have said, you've been very patient. Go to your local Lodge and obtain a petition. Gook luck in your journey.
