Just did the first degree work yesterday. 4th, 12th, 14th, 18th, 22nd, 26th, 30th and 32nd. What a day!

I'm being told that I can complete the degree work in two years if I attend all the upcoming Reunions over that time. Just curious as to what kind of time this has taken for the other brothers here?

It depends. The Valley of Dallas (largest in the Southern jurisdiction) sometimes holds Reunions extending over 3 consecutive Saturdays, and I mean ALL day each Saturday extending into the evening, where all 29 degrees are given.

In Utah we do two yearly reunions that do the five required degrees and then many others. It covers three days (three long days). There are times we have performed every degree 4-32, but that's not typical. A few of the degrees are only done spring or fall.

Many Valleys aren't set up to do all of the degrees, especially at one Reunion. It is a huge amount of work and preparation. Fortunately for us Dallas guys, the Valley of Dallas has the depth in numbers and the facilities to do it. There has been talk of having a "travelling reunion" to offer the degrees on the road in other Valleys.

We do ours (Wyoming) in a biannual session, but all degrees are put on during an all day Friday and Saturday. Here is the schedule from our Spring 2008 Reunion. http://wy-srmason.org/Spring%202008%20Sched.pdf

BTW: I can announce that we (Wyoming) have a new Deputy SGIG, PGM John L. Farmer. We have not had a full SGIG for the past 6 years, just the previous Deputy, Bob Schrader.

Has anyone done the Scottish Rite reunion in Houston? I'm curious how it works. I'm told that you go in at the beginning of the weekend and by the end you come out a "32nd". Do they do all the "required" degrees in one weekend?

It's probably one of the 'streamlined' degree programs, where only certain degrees are presented. Yes, you are still "32nd", but you haven't seen all the degrees. The 3-Saturdays in a row at the Valley of Dallas was three LONG grueling days, and impossible to fit into two. If you take in all 29 degrees, you are presented with a special medal to wear on your jacket. I'm not sure what effect that has on advancement in your Valley.
