I think the food issue will get most of not all way before the gun, ammo supply problems.
I am not really worried about fuel and transport.

My concern is when all the ready made can goods, vegetable in the fields, animals in the woods are gone or scarce then I have problems.

When the zombies come all I need is a bolt gun, a six shooter, and a cowboy hat. The Walking Dead told me so.

This is not the best section of this site to find the 'best prepared' I'd suggest checking out some of the other areas...

I will say that I am pretty well off regarding food, water, guns, ammo, vehicles, camping equipment/survival gear, and tactical gear.

If I had to leave here, after loading up the truck and trailer I would still leave behind at least 50 times what the average American has in survival stuff.

No sir, I cheated.
The brass is real 45 brass, but the business end is not.
And they have no powder in them, just a primer to set them off.

I took my 45 bullet mold and injected glow in the dark hot melt (UV) glue into the cavaties let them cool and inserted them into the cases.
They glow like that under UV light.

For those of you thinking about doing this, its easy.
BUT if you intend to fire them be warned.
I've never fired these in an auto loader, so I can't say how they will work in one
I have fired them in a 45 single action though.
If you use regular cases with standard primers, the primer will back out.
There are 45 lc cases available that have primer pockets bored out to accept shot shell primers and work wonderfully.
AND the hot melt glue WILL gum up your barrel after 10 to 20 rounds.
I did these for a the fun of it and for display only.

it's not copper. OPSEC keeps me from saying what they're made from. did you miss the email/memo on how to make these ? it was a one time deal, as the email was only active for an hour and then it goes blank.

My fiances dad has a log cabin in Northern Wisconsin that is my bug out spot. It's a 4 hour drive, but only has me traveling through one heavily populated area, which I can avoid by simply taking a different route. It's a 3 floor cabin (including the basement) that has a coffin style freezer that currently has around 200 lbs of deer meat and about 150 lbs of bear meat. The power system is a grid-tie system, including a 5000 watt generator(with a large battery bank), several solar panels and a pair of 500 watt wind turbines (all sensitive electronics in the system are EMP shielded). Water supply is a hand pumped well, we also have a ton of brita filter, bleach and water treatment tabs. As far as weapons go: Ruger Mini-14 with 2500+ rounds (plus a 37mm Havoc 9" Flare Launcher with illumination flares), Mosin Nagant M44 with 4400+ Rounds, Remington 740 with 1000+ Rounds, 2 Winchester M70's 7mm Rem. and 243 with 500+ Rounds each, Marlin XS7 .308 with 1000+ Rounds, S&W 629 44 Mag with 1000+ Rounds, S&W 500 Mag with 250+ Rounds, S&W M&P .40 with 1500+ Rounds, RIA 1911A2 45 ACP with 2000+ Rounds, several .22LR Rifles (Marlin, Ruger, Remington) with 5000+ Rounds. As far as food goes (besides the meat I already mentioned) there is a 1 acre plot of corn, vegetables, apples and oranges; we have a bunch of it that's been canned over the past few years, a bunch of store bought canned food. The 40 acres it's on has a plentiful supply of wood for the fireplace in the cabin, as well as a plentiful supply of game animals for food (Deer, Bear, Squirrel, Rabbit, etc.). It's about 15-20 miles from any decent sized road and during a hunting weekend you might see 3-5 cars drive by, and at least one will be DNR. Vehicles: He has a Quad Cab Dakota, I have a Jeep Liberty, Fiance has Quad Cab Colorado with a 2" lift, all are 4WD. Equipment: chainsaws, axes, various woodworking tools (some of which were used in the construction of the Log Cabin). I wouldn't say that we're on Burt's level, but I would say we are well prepared.

I have an AR, 9mm, medical supplies, and ONE MRE.
If I dont die during the first few hours-days of the initial outbreak, I should do OK assuming I can scavenge what I need.

I plan on taking my boat to the middle of our small private lake where there is an island I can camp on. Otherwise, I'm going to a local substation (think power plant, not sandwiches) which has 10 foot high fences which aren't really chain link, they're some kind of snake proof fence. Its like a solid sheet of metal with holes drilled every 1/8". With the buildings inside to live in, a small river/pond just outside the fence, and many deer that inhabit the area i'll be able to last indefinitely if my position remains a secret.

Nuclear plant?

When the grid goes out and nobody maintains the power station you and everyone 100 miles around you could be in for a big surprise....

Nuclear Plants in the US will shutdown upon loss of support power, and a vast majority are self sufficient as far as the reactor goes and will shut themselves down in the event that something gets out of control inside it.

you could have left off the "from the 90's" part, they aren't much different now. After my ship left Galveston, Tx (we were there for Hurricane relief after Ike) we had a couple pallets of MRE's in the vehicle hold. We would sneak down at 2 in the morning and grab a couple boxes at a time and take them to the engine room where we would share them with the rest of the division, those brownies and cookies could have clogged up bigfoot's asshole.

This is a false statement. Once the plant looses offsite power , the emergency diesel generators will kick on, supplying power to run pumps that continue circulating water through the reactor core and spent fuel pool. Once diesel runs out (~10,000) gallons, you get station black out or total loss of power. You can stop the nuclear reaction quickly but the heat generated from the fuel will eventually create a nuclear melt down.

Please enlighten me with how you keep water circulating without power to cool the fuel? The only plants to be self sufficient in an emergency are the new Westinghouse AP1000 plants. They use condensation/gravity and convention. I could be wrong but I'd like to know.

yeah, ours had natural a circulation, 2 loop system, with booster pumps. we could shut down the reactor and run the generators (self sufficient for power) to draw out the heat from the core. On a minimal power level reactors like ours won't meltdown even with no draw off due to the hotter water slowing down the chain reaction.
ETA: I very well could be wrong in generalizing all nuke plants to the one I worked on, but I attribute that to the Navy teaching me that way (which explains a lot about my twisted mind, lol) Regardless of all this, a Nuke plant is not a place I would go during zompoc.

NOTE: before anybody says I'm throwing secret info on the net, any of this can be found online.

i have a remington 870 that i converted to full auto with my dremel and a q-tip. i put a homemade silencer on it. all you hear is hulls hitting the ground and zombie heads exploding! i made a 50 round drum mag for it out of a coffee can and an airbag spring. i made a poncho out of a thermal blanket so the zombies in the blawkhawk helicopters cant see me with their thermal imaging. i have a "team" and we practice our manuvers every saturday at the mall.

actually im not very prepared at all... times have been tough, and we've been using our survival stash to survive. funny how that works! hopefully i restock before the day comes that i need it again!!
