What would you select for your first B&E?
OK, the END is here. What store will you be entering without permission?
Are you a smoker and need your fix, will it be the Pharmacy for inhalers because you have asthma or are you a Diabetic that requires Insulin.
Possibly you feel the need for more guns and Ammo or a Grocery store for dry goods and other supplies. Perhaps you know of a better place to bug in, a building that is easier to secure.
I’m going for the Grocery / Pharmacy combo store for more dry goods, bottled water, antibiotics and basic medical supplies. The cigarettes and some alcohol could be used to barter with but they are not a priority for us.
Have you thought about a forced entry that needs to be done?
Gun stores and big box store will be over ran . Beside Guns and ammo I got a plenty so for me it will be booze aka liquor store and I will likely hit the Animal clinic for meds as most people will not think to look there. I will likely at some point check out a truck stop looking for a tanker of fuel . I plan on taking in about 30 ish survivors and of that we will have dedicated prospectors who make weekly treks searching for goodies .
My first stop will be the convenience store down the road for Cope and then the vet clinic across the street from the store for meds.
I can't see the point of committing any crimes while the cops are still on the job, getting into a fire fight with them or arrested and locked up would suck a big one.
It would be better to wait for a few days, get the family home and safe, baton down the hatches, and start a 24/7 guard routine and media watch set up, radio tv and internet will be watched for as long as they are available. Once they have gone down and there is nothing more to be received it will be time to go shopping if it is safe to do so at that time.
A couple of realities of the Federal/State and County Government is that the crisis will be happening (inter)nationally, so they won't be able to command their assets to more badly hit areas, those asset be it the armed forces, Police, fire service etc will all be called in, regardless what shift they have and used locally to deal with the situation. Once they themselves have realised what is happening in the world they will want to be with their families and will abandon whatever tasks they had been given.

I figure more like a few hrs . Think about it if there are zombies I am pretty sure 911 will be busy and if the cops do show up you can always blame it on the zombie ...what's he gonna do squeel on you hehehe .
I hear what your sayin 2-gun, another reason is them zeds will still be really fresh, they'll still be fast and strong.
My way of looking at this, is if you survive the first 24hrs, you have a pretty good chance of getting through it. The hardest bit will be when the out break happens, knowing it. Knowing that you need to pop one in their heads to put them down, some people will die because they caught on to what is happening to late

Actually I have given this some thought. In my opinion that is the whole point of making preps. Figure out what you would want to grab in the zombie apocalypse or an oncoming hurricane or whatever. Then go out and buy that stuff while the stores are still open and there are no panicked crowds. It's better to pay for stuff with cash now rather than take a risk of trying to get it when that could mean risking your life.
If you are doing it right, there should be nothing you desperately need except things that you are prohibited from having right now either because of the law or because of the expense. Things like full auto weapons, sound suppressors, explosives, and night vision devices. I live in NY, where you need a permit to own a handgun and the process of obtaining the permit is similar to what you would have to go through to get a full auto weapon in a free state. So a handgun or handguns and the associated mags, holsters, etc would be towards the top of my list of things to acquire. Maybe hard core pain killers like morphine or fentanyl but I would be hesitant about that as I don't have the proper training to use them safely and the junkies would probably snatch all that stuff up first. Also supplies in general like food, batteries, fuel, etc. As even if you pre stock them you will eventually need more.
But as others have stated it is best to sit tight during the initial craziness. Again that is the whole point of prepping. You buy it now so you don't have to risk your life to get it later.
Wallyworld has a rather large distribution center not too far from here....
here's where i am blessed i work at a indoor gun range and the entire building its in all entrances and exits including windows and door are reinforced and/or bullet proof the range portion has brick walls with 1.25 inch steel plates all the way around plus at least 100,000-200,000 rounds of centerfire ammo more guns then ever needed plenty of tru spec pants shirts vests jackets tac vests 3-5 armor sets plenty of batteries private well and a dumpster out back on wheels that can be used to block front or back door truck to block the other with drivers door facing in of course also plenty of magazines and the other usual stuff at gun stores cleaning kits bore snakes ammo cans spring sets for glocks ar15 sig beretta gunsmith station and theres only 4 people who have keys to the place we have extra cages past every door should it be breached barb wire in the ceiling so no entry from the top cameras all the way around and a few covert cameras facing down the entrance road its on a dead end roadin a small town so im sure the 4 families could hold down the fort but to be on the safe side i live closer to it than any others im 1.28 miles from my house to their and the closest after that is about 17 miles so even if roads are blocked i can make it offroad all the way up there with my truck and fourwheeler
local gun/fishing/hunting store that's a few blocks away for ammo and possibly more guns and other useful items
then i'm going to the pharmacy that's about a half mile away.
then i'm going to ace hardware and getting all the tools/materials that look like they could be useful and a few generators
ThatGuy67 you need a solar array and a wind turbine and you officially rock

Cant think of one thing I would need for quite awhile.
After things calmed down a bit, I would head to my boat, make a 7 mile trip down the intercostal waterway to Hurlburt Field (home to Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), the 1st Special Operations Wing (1 SOW), the USAF Special Operations School (USAFSOS) and the Air Combat Command's (ACC) 505th Command and Control Wing) to get intel, and maybe some MREs and whatever supplies I could beg.
If things were too bad I would have battened down the hatches at home and bugged out to my boat, anyway. I can get to the boat in 30 minutes on foot with no zeds.
There is a nice little hole in the wall grovery store nearby (within walking distance) that doesnt appear to be particularly well known. Big stores like walmart will be an uter nightmare, but I think a place like this little store will still have supplies hidden away after 24hrs. I believe I have enough supplies otherwise, but you NEVER can have enough consumables such as food and water.
There's a large strip mall 1/2 mile from my house. Super Target is one of them. Within 2 miles is another large strip mall. WWZ got me thinking about winters. Brooks prob hit it right when he said all the shit in the air is going to prolong winters, make them harsher and longer. I may live in Phoenix, but it does get pretty cold for us. Having said that, this may sound crazy, but I'm gonna stock up on cold weather gear. Take as many blankets and several jackets, and shoes/boots for the fam.
Ammo and meds would be next.

iI think the second morning will see the most zombies . My reasoning is on day one everyone will hide in fortified shelters or there cars or offices . However after the water goes off and they spend the night without water or a bathroom most will venture out at first ligh, t this is when the zombies will kill most people . IMHO .

My wife is a LVT, they keep suprisingly little drugs on hand. Even at the surgery and emergency clinics.

So...... you have an Armory but what good is it if you dont have food or water or meds?
Iam out in the country. I wouldnt be going to any public places for the 1st week. Then maybe I might go for a drive and take a look see at whats available and start snatching up more supplies.
B&E suggestions after you have locked down your location and waited for things to calm down a lil and you are at 60% emergency supplies that you have secured for situations:
Grocery Stores for Food and Water Supply
Local Doctors Office mainly plastic surgery offices for general first aid supplies and meds( Most doctors offices always receive sample packs of meds but the surgical offices will have pain meds/antibiotics meds etc basically everything you would need)
Gas Stations for Fuel for Generators and Vehicles
Big Box Stores would be on the list too, for stuff you need and stuff you can use for currency since current currency will be worthless.
Definitively hitting a car lot up too for a vehicle or two or three, nothing fancy, just vehicles that can secure all personnel, get over any time of terrain, and can haul supplies.
I need a dirt bike. Four stroke. More quiet and 2stroke oil will be hard to find. That way I can travel and not have to worry about traffic jams.

This guy thought he was blessed as well:

Better safe then sorry for those that are 'bugging in' what happens if your location gets over run with looters, zombies, or guinea pigs :-P
This is only if i absolutely need to and there really is no law and order and to top that there will not be any for sometime.
meds
vet offices
private practices
plastic surgery
ambulances.
clinics, pharmacies the list is huge.
Food
Big box stores are no go ill be as far away as possible.
scavenge everywhere!
I'm in California agriculture is huge there are farms a plenty....if people are on the farm ill ask nicely.
also wild edibles, Ive picked some veggies to feed friends in camp everyone was nervous but they were happy with the food. lol
Transport of some kind, my car is a pos.

So...... you have an Armory but what good is it if you dont have food or water or meds?
While it's hard to find, in that giant punctuation free sentence. He did mention a private well at the site. He would actually be doing pretty good. You need food, water, shelter, and protection. Everyone on Earth needs food and water to survive. So quite logically our societies place storage and distribution points all over. Looking over my suburban neighborhood, just about every building would likely have some food and water. Almost very home and every business from a gas station to an office building contains at least some food and water. So scrounging food and water in a modern country should be easy, at least for a short time.
Weapons on the other hand are a different story. Most people go through life without ever actually firing a gun. Consequently storage and distribution points for small arms aren't dotting the landscape. Every town has a grocery store but not every town has a gun shop. And where arms are stored or distributed they are often kept under lock and key. If you were to look in my house post Zday, there might be guns and ammo to find but they might still be locked up in the gun safe.
And heavily secured buildings aren't exactly common either, particularly not ones that have a good supply of weapons and ammo already stored up.
Im set as far as guns and ammo goes.
I also have more than enough food, water, and baby supplies to bug in for 2 months.
If i am in need i would avoid any large stores. I'd love to hit the Bass Pro 5 miles from me but its just too much of a risk. I'd hit the corner less than a mile away from my house with a Walgreens, Autozone, Gas Station, and coin/gold shop all next to each other. I figure Walgreens in perfect for meds plus they have a large aisle with canned/boxed food and water. I also like that there is a Walgreens or CVS on every corner around here so less chance of problems or an empty store.

Id hit Costco... its LITERALLY behind my apartment. I could B&E through their loading dock, grab a few food items and boogie. Wife is pregnant so Id arm her and let her hold the fort.... she could cover me from the balcony with the 10/22.
well, since i own a gun shop... i'll just take everything home with me when Z-day starts. add the inventory to my current items and i'm all set for things to kill things with.
Andy taught me a very important lesson: a well secured gun store is worthless without food & water. we have enough on hand to cover us past when our escape plans would have been instituted.
i guess if i went out looking for things post ZHTS (Zombies Hit The Street) i would be in the market for some heavy equipment. a good bulldozer or track-hoe would come in very handy.
At this point, I'd need to upgrade my ride before hitting up any big box stores, etc. So I'd head on over to the truck dealership.

yeah one in some type of IDF config would be great
I am too remote to worry about a Zombie Horde unless some of the healthy locals turned w/o being bitten.
I would want to fab some ABS body armor and I think I could do that w/ whats on hand
My water is gravity fed so I'm GTG there
I have food and a genny
I would want more fuel
There are no gun stores in my county, but I'm covered.
I could wait a week or two then borrow a mil-spec truck and drive the 2 hours to a distribution point and load up.
Seriously?
This is what I get for working too hard IRL.
