Kinda funny article from IGN:click here
Compared to Otis, Shane comes up a little short. His talents seem to be: 1. fucking Andrea and 2.shooting instructor, with a minor in threatening old men.

I disagree with the article on the basis that I can do all of the things mentioned in the article (Firefighter/Medic, proficient marksman, and play guitar). Other than zombie wrangling I'm step for step with him and I dont feel like a "Renaissance Man" by any leap of the imagination.

As for Shane I feel his skill set is probably more useful in the long run than having Otis around. Yeah it would be nice to have a campfire sing along but it would be better have everyone on the farm able to shoot proficiently. Yes Otis may have been able to teach firearm handling and marksmanship, but he also may have not. Shane has experience in this, a lot of experience. Granted this is a tv show but most cops know what a BVM is because (in Tx least ways and I would imagine everywhere else) LEOs have to have CPR and thats part of it so that kind of throws that whole plot point out the window as for realism.

All in all, Shane is a better asset. And I think Otis was skimming snack cakes off the top because he was still way overweight for spending so long on rationed food.

The great thing about ZA is it's easy to tell who 's right . It's the guy who's not dead. and if he holds a loaded gun he is a freaking genius ...compared to the dead guy or a zombie

.

To a metrosexual who's only skills are writing snarky articles, eating brie, and poking fun at conservative honest folk - you sir are a real Rennasance man!

Seriously much of the younger urban crowd just doesn't get it.

BTW I keep seeing mention of Otis's weight. Why is everyone assuming he is 'snacking', could it not be that he HAS lost weight (and was larger) the 4-6 weeks prior before the infections? Also note, being on a farm Otis has access to food so he might not have to cut down nearly as much as our wandering troupe.

seriously otis was probally 290-320 he could have easily been 340-350 i mean its not like they have been on rationed food for 6-12 months just a few weeks 3-6 weeks and anyways like was mentioned they where on a farm and still have horses and chicken@ probally cows somewhere anyways the point is i doubt he was eating more than his share also shanes only abilities are firearms instructor and maybe cpr but really he hasnt shown anything worth keeping him around for in comparison to otis, otis hunted for food was a emt which is much further advanced than just cpr and could easily "teach" what shane did i mean we all see how good of a instructor he is he made andrea so mad she decided not to continue shooting, good job........also he played guitar which would be valuable because it would be calming and something to do to take everyones mind off the situation since theres no tv or radio and we didnt learn alot about him in the short time he was around but it was still enough to put him close to being more valuable than shane so imagine if otis was around for 3-5 episodes who knows what else he might know

I agree with you here..
As a kid growing up here in Texas, unless you are city bound only, you can't help but to grow up knowing how to hunt and fish. I also played the trombone, tuba, french horn, clarnet, oboe and saxaphone in band in school. Between boyscouts, first reponders courses and my CNA wife, I've picked up a ton of first aid and medical knowledge. After my little brother came home from the desert, I spent hours upon hours with him in room clearing drills and house clearing drills to keep him sharp for his applications to the police acadamy here. Learned a metric shit ton of wilderness survival from various uncles, grandparents and my dad, as well as building skills from shop classes and personal interest.

This article is hokey, just some punk kids who don't understand that there is a whole world out there not associated with their computer and the 12 city blocks they live in, and can't fathom having any other skills than one or two things...

When the zombies come.. they will be eaten first, I bet.. as they try running away, screaming about uncle sugar coming to save them.

IGN's writers have actually posted articles displaying far more full retard than this. This one was amusing/hokey compared wih the liberal bullshit they usually spout.Just another example of the entitlement generation in action. It's good to read this stuff sometimes, learn how the enemy thinks....
The sadistic part of me would love to see these fools in a SHTF situation. No hunting skills, never spent a night outside, probably can't even operate a manual can-opener.And judging by OWS,a 6th century idea of sanitation and hygiene.Remember when Z Day comes, rednecks are gonna save the world.

I'm pretty unimpressed with Otis. At best Otis knew a little bit about a few things, in practice he wasn't anything to write home about.

Otis the hunter : You may or may not place blame on Otis for shooting Carl but I sure as shit wouldn't use it as an example of what a wonderful guy Otis was. There is no denying that he violated the rule of "know your target and what is behind it". And the fact that Otis was out hunting for deer when he only had a few rounds left for his rifle shows Otis was a dumbass. Though I will concede he was a halfway decent marksman.

Otis the EMT : Yeah he can recognize equipment and supplies, the only skill he demonstrated was acting as a gofer. Being able to go to the hardware store and grab some lumber and nails doesn't make you a good carpenter. When Carl was shot where the hell were Otis's oh so wonderful emergency medical skills. All he did was direct them to an animal doctor.

Otis the Zombie expert. Otis was an expert on zombies the way Glenn is an expert on wells. He's the only guy around dumb enough to put himself in that situation. All I see is evidence that he was so weak willed and stupid that he was willing to shove his head in the lion's mouth just because someone said he should.

Otis the musician : Considering his other so called skills, I'm guessing Otis knew how to play the guitar just enough to play it badly.

Any skills he may have had are outweighed by all that he didn't. Otis the fat guy driving around his retro pickup truck with a hunting rifle and less than one box of shells was never going to survive very long anyway. Unless he dropped some weight, traded in his bolt gun for a semi auto and plenty of ammo, and stopped acting like Hershel's bitch , he was going to buy it sooner or later.
