It came to me in a dream: Improvised melee weapons are a no-go against zombies.

Especially if its a shovel!!!

Ill preface this by saying that if I could have written my dream into a script it would have made a pretty kick-ass zombie flick. Unlike most stories, this had more of a haunted/sci-fi/zombie virus/horror movie plot line all rolled into one.

In it I found myself helping set up for a party in an old old school building which had had rumors of odd goings on from time to time.
I had noticed that while I knew we had been there for many hours, virtually no time had passed according to my watch.
When I got tired I excused myself and I left the building. Upon my exit I looked at my watch and the minutes were flying by as if fractions of a second on a stop watch and the skies darkened.

For reasons ill never know I returned to the building to ask if anyone else had noticed something "odd" going on and found that everyone but 1 person had turned to zombies- but not in the traditional sense.
It was more like they were posessed as they could talk and seemed to have a memory but motor skills were more "zombie like".
Did I leave? No. Somehow I got my hands on a shovel and started going to town. Evidently its pretty hard to get a good clean shot to the head with a long handled shovel when you are surrounded or cramped in narrow hallways and room corners. Between taking multiple hits or getting it stuck, I was slowed down and exhausted in short order. It didnt take long for me to be overwhelmed and I ended waking up just before I got turned into Zed-food.

So in summary, no returning to creepy buildings and no melee weapons for me. Now pass me that 870 loaded with buckshot

That's one crazy dream bro! Thank you for sharing it with us. And your right, in a cramped hallway, a long handled shovel is going to be hindrance more then a help. Something is better then nothing I guess. A gun, preferably a room broom (shotgun) in that situation would be awesome at dispatching evil zeds to the nether world.

In that situation, if I had to fight with tools, I'd much rather have a heavy (not to heavy) knurled club that could break bones through 2 zeds at a time. Hitting legs and hips, I'd make my escape and kill only when the opportunity presented itself and only if I could do so without taking a chance of other zeds getting their hands on me. I'd like a good, thick bladed Kukri as a back up and for kill shot to the face and side of the head.

Something like this for back up.
back-up blade

And in further thinking- always have a sidearm and save the last round for myself!
