Louisiana Constitutional Amendment Needs Your Help on Monday
Last week, the House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice voted 9 to 5 to pass Senate Bill 303, legislation that would provide for the country’s strongest “right to keep and bear arms” constitutional amendment. SB 303 has already passed in the state Senate and has been endorsed by Governor Bobby Jindal. Currently, SB 303 is scheduled for consideration in the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee on Monday May 14.
This next committee meeting is the last step before a House floor vote can be taken on this legislation and your continued support remains crucial to its success. Please be sure to contact members of the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee today and urge them to vote for this important legislation.
This “iron-clad” constitutional amendment fortifying the right to keep and bear arms for all Louisianans has encountered fierce opposition from radical anti-gun legislators and needs your immediate help.
Introduced by state Senator Neil Riser (R-32), SB 303 would improve the current provision in the state constitution and provide Louisianans the strongest and most comprehensive constitutional language of any state, guaranteeing your right to keep and bear arms in Louisiana for future generations.
The language of SB 303 reads:
“The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms is fundamental and shall not be infringed. Any restriction on this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”
Ever since the Louisiana Supreme Court gutted the current right to keep and bears arms provision in 2001, Louisianans have had little protection from overreaching state-imposed gun control or in the event the landmark Heller or McDonald cases are overturned.
In fact, the current Louisiana provision has been so weakened by the state court that it would likely only prevent a complete across-the-board ban on firearms. By classifying the use of arms as a fundamental right, such as life and free speech, SB 303 would give gun owners the highest level of legal protection available, strengthening and providing a critical defense against future efforts to infringe on Louisianan’s right to keep and bear arms. In other words, SB 303 would put anti-gun extremists immediately on the defensive if and when they try to advance their gun bans.
If passed, this would be the country’s strongest gun protection.
Again, please contact members of the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee listed below today and urge them to stand up for your Second Amendment rights and support SB 303.

“The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms is fundamental and shall not be infringed. Any restriction on this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”
If that is the whole amendment it is the dumbest waste of time I've seen in awhile.
Response would be in effect "We scrutinized it closely and found it to be totally reasonable to take away all the citizens guns. Therefore the requirements of the amendment were met"
We've already seen the problem with understanding a simple "shall not be infringed" the left has.
Thanks for your response but it seems you haven't taken the time to read the entire post. I certainly understand what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they wrote our Constitution and how the Amendment II is written. I have taken two oaths to protect and defend those very words.
If you are interested, please feel free to read through the reasoning behind this bill to see why it may be important.
Thanks for this thread.
I'll call my reps this afternoon!

Strict scrutiny is a legal term, not just a descriptive action.

Thanks Brother....that's why I am here.
I may be a simple guy, but what the hell does "subject to strict scruitney" mean. To me that is less than "shall not be infringed", an just as openeded for the assholes to twist. Why not "shall not be infringed by posession, ownership, manufacturing, or purchase restrictions or bans of any type."
Brother.....
As TXLewis pointed out in his post...."Strict Scrutiny" is a legal term used by those looking to propose, change or modify a law. Now...I am not an attorney but I'm told Strict Scrutiny is a very high standard to meet.....
From what I am told....this law is rock solid.
All my best,
Joe
