Wisconsin residents have overwhelmed the state Justice Department with so many concealed weapon permit applications agency officials say they probably won't meet deadlines for issuing approvals this month despite pulling dozens of employees from other tasks to help.

Hopefully it won't be a perpetual problem. Wayne County, MI (Detroit) had wait times of 6-8 months for years, and they're still fairly lengthy. They were violating state law with their failure to step up their game, but the law didn't specify a penalty for failure to comply so it was a moot point.
