I was just cleaning the litter box and as i was doing this my 7 month old short hair Schrodinger jumps in to use it.
After he jumped out I went back to cleaning and there was very little urine even though he had been in there for a minute or so. He's been back in the litter box twice more in the last hour and each time is the same.
Should I be concerned? I'm a little new to cats, it just seems like he doesn't pee nearly as much as Pixel, my 4 month old.
He is still plenty active, in fact he and Pixel just got through chasing each other around the living room and he doesn't seem to be in any pain.
Am I just being paranoid or should I put in a call to the vet?

Oh, and Pics of cats

Update- (12-17-11)

Just got Schrodinger back from the vet and it looks like a little bit of inflammation, his bladder isn't distended (i think that's the word the vet used) so no surgery was necessary. He got a shot of antibiotics and is being switched over to a wet diet. I was told to keep a eye on him for the next few days to make sure it doesn't gets worse.
The vet said he was surprised i even noticed he was having problems, but its a good thing I did because it could have gotten a lot worse.

Thanks again for the responses.

Here is what I know about cats when they DO get a urinary tract infection: They eventually learn to associate the pain of peeing with the litter box so they start peeing anywhere and everywhere else in the house in an attempt to pee without the pain. Thus your home will smell like cat piss, your carpets will get ruined, clothes you have left on the floor will get pissed on, etc. Maybe cloth covered furniture as well. Cats, especially sick ones, are disgusting creatures.

Thanks for the links
He seems to be doing better now, but I think I'll run him into the vet tomorrow morning.

Cute babies

If by some chance he pees outside the box, on tile or something where it can be seen, look for an off color. With a UTI they can get a little blood in the urine.
