What did I get myself into?!
Yesterday I brought home a 8 week old black/silver male miniature schnauzer. The family he came from named him Max and I think I'll stick with it. We're in the middle of moving into a house from an apartment so uploading pictures will have to wait till tonight (maybe). This guy slept most of the day yesterday but was rearin' to go at 0500. I guess that's good since I get up that early most days. Crate training (started by the previous owners) is hit & miss. I've got Natures Miracle jumbo spray jug on standby, poo bags in my pocket and eyes on the little rascal. I must say, I had my heart set on a pitbull or boxer before but my wife negotiated down to this guy & he's awesome. He's never more than a few steps behind me so far and I'm hope to keep it that way.
Now, where is my computer & Internet stuff....

schnauzers are brilliant little dogs. Potty training with our dachshund was easy once we figured him out. We just took him out every couple hours. whenever he went potty, we would give him a treat and praise him profusely. Then we taught him to scratch at the door before going out.
I knew a pastor, real nice guy, who had three schnauzers. Their names were Steel, Wheels, and Nash.

That is one damn lucky dog...
You are in for a lot of fun. These guys are full of personality and can be quite opinionated.
Here is our 6 year old, Angus, eyeing my daughter's bacon.
So it took a while to get the photos online.
He's teething so we got him a rope toy to get him to chew that and not our fingers/toes.
The mysteries of the reflective black fridge
All play makes Max a sleepy boy
When I find him sleeping in places other than his kennel I usually put him there & he goes right back to sleep.

Just watch the rope toys. Make sure he doesn't try to actually eat the strands that he pulls off of it. They can get lodged in the stomach/intestines and cause a blockage.
Looks like he found a great home!

Tell him that! He keeps chewing on and eating pieces of mulch from the flower bed.

A friend of mine had a $1,500 vet bill and almost lost their dog because he ate a rope toy. It caused a complete intestinal blockage and only emergency surgery saved him. I won't let my dogs chew on them. FWIW

Watch that mulch eating, some mulches are treated and have been known to cause allergic reactions (in people too)
One thing I did with my schnauzer was to use the rope toys to make him jump. He can now leap almost four feet, flat footed from a static point.
It's a really good way to wear them out before nap time.
Him staring at the fridge reminds me of the ape scene from 2001. plus there is food in the fridge, so if he ever gets in it.. same song is applicable.

Cocoa mulch is a big no no.
Schnauzers are awesome. Get a good set of clippers (Andis or Oster) and learn to groom him. Do it on a regular basis now so he will be used to it. Since he has natural ears you will need to be very careful with the outside edge of the ears when you are clipping him. Even if you decide to take him to a groomer most of the time if you clip him two or three times you paid for the clippers. You need to brush their beards and furnishings fairly regularly especially if they have soft coats. Soft coats are the worst. Our two current mini's have soft coats and they get really matty. Our giant is course coated and his pretty much never gets mats.
He is a handsome pup. Congrats.
Well I was cleaning up his leavings the other day and noticed an abundance of wood/bark particles. He isn't having any digestive issues that I can tell. He does eat less than the bag of puppy chow recommends though.
