Anyone know of any good books written by a World War 2 Veteran that describes his time in the service?

Here are just a few of the ones I have read in the past couple of years....

http://www.amazon.com/Biggest-Brother-Major-Winters-Brothers/dp/0451215109

Sorry this was the one actually written by him...

http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Band-Brothers-Memoirs-Winters/dp/0425213757/ref=dp_cp_ob_b_title_1

this one is by Bill Guarnere and "Babe" Heffron...

http://www.amazon.com/Brothers-Battle-Friends-William-Guarnere/dp/0425224368/ref=pd_sim_b_2

One published posthumously but written from his memoirs...

http://www.amazon.com/Parachute-Infantry-American-Paratroopers-Memoir/dp/0440240905/ref=pd_sim_b_5

Don Malarkey...

http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Company-Soldier-Legendary-Sergeant/dp/B004Q7E1KS/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b

"Buck" Compton who is very much the Conservative and gets very political in the book outside of talking about the war...

http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Company-Soldier-Legendary-Sergeant/dp/B004Q7E1KS/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b

Don Burgett also wrote a great account of his experiences this book is number one in the series...

http://www.amazon.com/Currahee-Screaming-Eagle-at-Normandy/dp/0440236304/ref=pd_sim_b_11

http://www.amazon.com/D-Day-Screaming-Eagles-George-Koskimaki/dp/089141892X/ref=pd_sim_b_12

I think this one was done from interviews with Jake Mcneice...

http://www.amazon.com/Filthy-Thirteen-Airbornes-Legendary-Paratroopers/dp/1932033467/ref=pd_sim_b_19

You might surmise from my reading list where my interests lie but there are a ton more I have read these are just my personal favorites actually written by the guys who were there...

Several of the Easy Company/Band of Brothers guys have books out:

Call of Duty: My Life Before, During and After the Band of Brothers by Lynn "Buck" Compton

Easy Company Soldier by Don Malarkey

Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends by Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron

A couple of other great 101st books are:

The Filthy Thirteen by Jake McNiece and Richard Killblane

It Was My War, I'll Remember It The Way I Want To by William Sefton

...and by Don Burgett:

Currahee
The Road to Arnhem
Seven Roads to Hell
Beyond the Rhine

I also read a fair bit about the 83rd Infantry Division. These are books by 83rd veterans:

Lee Miller's War by Lee Miller
The Rag Tag Circus: From Omaha Beach to the Elbe by Edwin B Crabill
I Saw It Through by John A. Aller
Shavetail by William L. Devitt

(Some of those are hard to find)

ETA: From the German perpsective, I think the "classic" is Guy Sajer's The Forgotten Soldier (there are some differing opinions on his credibility though).

An absolute classic, and required reading at military academies is "Company Commander" by Charles MacDonald.
Others:

"To Hell and Back" by Audie Murphy.
"Those Devils in Baggy Pants" by Ross Carter.
"On To Berlin" by General James Gavin.

If you don't mind reading about the other side:

Stuka Pilot, by Rudel. Arguably among the greatest attack pilots of all time (and a pretty good read).

Iron Coffins, by Werner. If you liked the movie Das Boot, you'll love the book.
