Anything new on this rifle? Did they change anything on it yet? Design? Etc?

Yeah, the new "classic style stock" will be standard on ALL models. And I am not impressed with that stock at all, feels like a cheap POS to me.

I didn't notice any other changes, other than their new variants which are on their website.

There were rumors of a 7.62 version of the 556 in 08 but I guess it was only a rumor.

I disagree. I thought the SIG 556 Classic was one of the nicest rifles on display at the entire show....not just the SIG booth. The folding stock slides in and out as well and therefore provides an adjustable LOP. The smooth handguard is definitely nicer....and more user friendly than any tactical rail.

I own an original SIG 550 so I think I have a good basis for comparison. I may actually buy a 556 Classic as it comes very close to the original....and with cheaper, more readily available mags.

556 classic with a nice diopter is an awfully tempting rifle. They've got to work on the price point, though.

Over on sigforum there is a heated thread about the quality of the 552 stock they are using on the classic model. Supposedly they are NOT swiss stocks, but copies of the swiss design. Anyway, I'm much happier with my M4 stocked 556, I can add a folder when and if I want, in the mean time I've got all the magpul options I can shake a bayonet at.

I was not impressed with the SIG 556 folder. Several of the display guns had buttstocks that would not lock correctly when extended/collapsed. It was like the latch return spring was worn out. Some worked fine but if this is an example of the durability of the stock, it sucks.

Personally, I don't have a need for a folder, especially an ugly one. The original 550 folder is one of the most beautiful shaped stocks on any rifle. Too bad they just didn't duplicate it.

The classic handguard is better looking than the plastactical abortion on the originals. But I agree it feels a bit cheap.

If I get a 556 (leaning to a 556 pistol to SBR), I will go with the quad railed model and stick a UBR on it.

Don't pay extra for the railed model. Troy is coming out with a 556 rail, and samson already has one. Both are of a higher quality than the Sig rail.

Really Troy...outstanding! Do you have a link or pics of their 556 rail?

Big AMEN to that, don't get the SIG railed model. I did, then did my research a bit and realized you can get a far superior product for the exact same price if you buy a base model and build up w/high quality aftermarket stuff. Oh well, still love the rifle, live and learn I guess!

Can't lie, I'm excited for the 522. Doesn't hurt that it can come into California unmodified .

The Sig .308 AR isn't going to get it done with modified M14 magazines.

The trend clearly for these guns is back to original pattern AR10/SR25 magazines.

I've got one of the first Sig556 classics made that have original Swiss collapsing/folding stocks and I think there is a noticeable difference in the feel between the two. I don't know if it's the plastic itself or how its made, but there is a difference!

That being said I haven't found a picture of a sig 550 series of rifle with the swiss made folding collapsible stock on it...

YES, and the 5.56 SIG516 is said to have an MSRP of around $1300.00. Don't know about the 7.62 model.
