AAC 300 Blackout Sniper Rifle
I saw a video of it on vimeo or youtube (I forget) and it was stupid quiet.... like as quiet as a suppressed 22 quite.
AWESOME....

What's the deal with this 300 Blackout round anyway? I just started hearing about it in the last couple weeks but nothing more than Noveske makes a barrel for it. Now there's this from AAC. So what's the scoop on this round?

(very) Roughly.....
300 Blackout = Remington/AAC standardizing the 300 Whisper. Factory loads, dimensions, suppressors, etc.
(as best I recall)
That's the first I've seen of that rifle and that is going to be one expensive rifle. I'm not sure why anyone would want to spend the $$ for a high end bolt action 9" 300 BLK rifle, unless you needed more noise reduction than you would get from a 9" AR.
I have a 10.5" Noveske 300BLK that will be getting a can, but I'm having a hard time finding the application of this partiicular rifle other than "it looks cool" and it will have less noise than an AR version because it is a bolt action.
Maybe I'm not thinking hard enough. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be a fun gun to shoot, but with that Remington chasis, action and integral suppressor, you are probably looking at a $3500 gun. Also, "300BLK" and "Sniper" should probably not be used in the same sentence.
How about just a side-charging AR that has a gas shut-off?

I think AAC, freedom group by extension, is pushing for adoption of this round in a bunch of different styles of rifles. My guess trying to avoid the 6.8 stigma of being only for tactical ARs. They have a model 7, TC is making barrels, a handi rifle is looking more real, and of course the 700 is Remington's flagship firearm and this is the newest generation of it. It makes sense, from marketing alone, to tie the two products together. The brand new hi-speed low drag 700 chasis with the high speed low drag 300 blackout.

That's a good business strategy. I hope this round actually works out.

I bought into simply for the fact if it doesn't catch on I'm only a bandsaw away from a pile of new shiny brass for it.
If they would put this much effort into the rounds that work like the 6.8 and 6.5 G we would be better off than waiting on this underpowered over rated round. I really fail to see the benefit of this round over the others mentioned. If I am wrong show me, otherwise I see no need for this. It's all in the marketing anyways.

its the whole subsonic aspect to it. This is very very similar to the 300 whisper which is freaking quiet when running subsonic suppressed. It will also function a semi-auto with the proper gas tube length (very short). Plus you don't have to get special mags or brass. you can cut down then neck up the brass to fit a 308 dia bullet. kind of a cool little deal. Some what versatile and with the proper ammo the hi BC heavy bullets in a subsonic set up can actually go a pretty long ways fairly accurately if you have the right DOPE for the round. Also, hype = $$$ usually. And this is getting a lot of hype.
What sort of velocity are people getting? How is this different than a .308 subsonic round?
Edit. I went to the website. Interesting.

This-
Ultra-quiet suppressed semi-auto with subsonics
Heavy, high-bc projectiles launched at MP5SD noise level
Nothing to change besides the barrel
Maybe it's a niche round, but that's a BIG niche!

Not to mention that it's roughly equivalent to 7.62x39mm when loaded supersonic with commonly available components while using the same bolt and magazines as any other AR in 5.56x45mm.

300 Blackout > 7.62x39
I snagged one of the AAC 9" AR uppers a couple months ago. It runs GREAT, not one FTF. The manual provides load data and Forster has dies. I just installed a 16" .300 AAC Blackout barrel on my savage the other day. It doesn't look nearly as cool as the new Rem linked above but it is nice. I'm waiting on a QD mount but am thinking about popping one off another rifle. Here's a little vid or the .300 AAC AR:
There are shotgunners on the range next to me and they're shooting during the first round I fire. The remaining 4-5 shots are how it normally sounds.

I have some of these on order, should be here tomorrow:
TAC-X bullet
It would be cool if someone rebarreled a Krinkov in the caliber and thread the bbl appropriately for a can.
Good with the chasis, but the round is no sniper round. Maybe a short range sentry neutralizer, but it does not have the legs to call it a sniper round. Better suited to CQB.

I think it could definitely serve a purpose in a occupied urban area.
The 220gr SMK leaves muzzle at 1025fps and is still at 925fps at 300yds. That would ruin any one's day.
FWIW, I agree "Sniper" shouldn't be associated with the 300 BLK cartridge.
According to this, it is just a concept gun.
AAC Super-Cool Suppressed Rifle
Guess I'll be putting a 300 BLK upper together for my AR.
Makes more sense in an AR platform than a bolt gun. I think the round has some potential, particularly with remington's backing.
ETA: do want the chasis for a long action .300 or .338 rig.
AAC is one of my favorite companies in terms of innovation. Real smart folks.

While I do not disagree and prefer the 300 BLK to the x39 for many reasons, the external ballistics with 123 gr. projectiles are about the same in 16" barrels. That was my point in making the comparison. You know, so the folks who don't value its efficiency in short barrels or subsonic capabilities have something to like.

Is it a niche rifle that could be put to good use by a precision marksman? Absolutely. Would I like to have one hanging in the B-Hut next to my Mk12? More than you know. Still, I wouldn't consider it a sniper rifle, but it's just semantics, I guess.

It owns the 300M fight that American snipers have doctrinally avoided for many years.
From what was said on another forum this rifle is a two, possibly three stamp gun. SBR with muzzle can with "integral" can as well. Was also mentioned that its about $6500. I think its mainly a concept/one off just for giggles. There was a vid posted as well and this thing is, to me, as quiet as a 22 lr.
The 300 BLK is the "legitimized" 300 whisper/fireball/300-221 in the fact that there will be SAMMI specs so anyone will be able to make ammo or chamber barrels and everything will be interchangable not like the current 300 whisper/300 fireball/300-221 or whatever other names this has. I have wanted a whisper for years, but the propietary nature of the beast kept me from fooling with it. Now there will be factory loads and rifles so one won't have to go the custom route or reload if they don't want to.
