Help me pick a guitar
I used to play a lot back in the 80s. Mostly rock, with a little blues mixed in. I had a 1983 Dan Smith Strat and a 1982 Vibro Champ amp that got stolen out of my car in 1988...after that, I didn't play very much anymore.
My 7 yr old son has been taking drum lessons for a few months, and all that time at the music store has got me itching to play again. All I have now is an old, broken down Yamaha acoustic, and I want to get another electric.
I don't have a ton of disposable cash right now, so I've been searching Craigslist for a good used guitar. I'm torn between the Ibanez RG321MH and the Epiphone G-400 SG. The price is about the same for both guitars, and I love the look and feel of them both. I'll be playing a lot of AC/DC, Nirvana, Metallica, Megadeth, etc. So which one would you chose, and why? The only problem that I see with either guitar, is the Ibanez I'm looking at has EMG HZ pups in it, and I've read a lot of crap about them.
Sadly, "Get both" isn't an option right now.
I have an Ibanez RG470 that has one of the Designed by EMG pickups in the bridge. The pickup sounds dull, but over all the guitar is great. I don't know much about the Epi SG, but I have a Gibson SG Standard. It has to be one of my favorite guitars. I really wasn't a big fan of the SG style guitars, but it grew on my quickly. It's light, great sustain, and the neck on it is awesome. Between the choices you gave, I would pick the SG.
I own several guitars, including several Gibsons, a Charvel, and a Ibanez. Believe it or not the guitar I play the most is a MIM Fender Stratocaster, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a med budget guitar. I see them on craigslist all the time in the $300 range.
Bought a 2003 Vintage model Korean SG, with a Fender Frontman 25R, with a nice TKL case for $150.
My fingers are killing me!

That's a good deal on that guitar. The fretboard is bound, right?

Yes, the fretboard is bound. I managed to find a kid that needed some rent money....I usually find the guy that doesn't need the money and thinks his shit is made of gold.

Congrats, man!.....where's the pics?

Yea, me too. Anyway, that's a smoking deal on that guitar. They are much, much better than the chinese models.
The case itself is worth a good bit of what you paid.
Lets see the pics!
Here's a crappy cell phone pic.

Works for me.

That was steal. I need to spend more time on craigslist.
Take a look at guitar center's used section, you can find steals there. I have purchased my last 3 guitars through them.
