I have a PRS SE Custom 24 and the stock tuners on it aren't all that great. I'm looking for something to replace them, I was thinking of Grovers since I have them on my acoustic and they seem to work well. I was thinking of something that had as low of a ratio as possible, such as an 18:1. Besides the Grovers, what are the best tuners that I can find for this thing?

Thanks!

Mike

EDIT: here's a link to the Grovers I was thinking of

Take a look at Sperzel tuning keys.

I used them on my '78 Les Paul standard when the stockers wore out. Nice keys, and they lock, whats not to like?

Grovers SUCK. They are the WORST tuners you can pay too much for!

Trust me on this. I've been working on and building guitars since 1985. I know of what I speak.

I've found Grovers, new in the box, that hadn't even been COMPLETED yet!

I'd recommend Gotohs LONG before I'd recommend Grovers, but personally I specify Schallers for my own guitars. The only guitar I have
that doesn't have Schallers is my own PRS SC245 that has vintage style keys on it. As they do work well, I'll just let them stay.
I also will do nothing to disturb the originality of a PRS employee guitar like this one. It is a very expensive instrument, on the level of
Private Stock guitars.

The best answer, but probably not the cheapest, is to order replacement tuners from PRS. Third generation lightweight machines are very nice indeed.

Schaller mini lockers are a direct swap. I put a set on my SE the same day I got it. The PRS lockers work great, but at 3 times the price of the Schallers definitely aren't worth it.
