I just got my first bass guitar...stupid qustion
When I'm not playing should I leave it in tune or loosen the strings a bit to take some stress off of them ,to get more life out of the strings. I plan to tune it every day I play anyway just not sure if this is concern or not.
ETA* my first instrument ever
Keep it tuned up to full concert pitch.
If you keep changing the string tension, the neck will keep reacting to the changed tension. As a result, it won't stay in tune very well.
The only time you tune down is for shipping or long-term storage. And that's more for acoustic guitars than any kind of solidbody electric,
bass or guitar.

That is what the truss rod or rods in the neck are for!
never lean the guitar against a wall!
that will warp the neck faster than anything.
Yes, that is important. Use a proper stand, or put it back in the case. You do have a case, don't you?
Strings are disposable. Back when I played a lot, I generally replaced them when they started being difficult to keep in tune, or I just wanted to try a different style.

Yes I have a stand ,but I got a gig bag for now. I kinda wish I would have got a case but I was talked into a bag and I went with it because the
Ibanez-SR375MBBT ,and accessories where over what I wanted to spend (even though I didn't pay for it) on my first bass. Now that I think about it for around 30 more bucks I could've gotten a case. But I cannot complain.
I believe the only time you should loosen the strings like that is for long term storage.
