Hive: School me on Cakewalk products
So my girlfriend composes songs and performs them herself, and mixes the instruments (typically piano/keyboard) and vocals on her computer (laptop running Win7). She's complaining constantly that the program she currently uses sucks... She keeps saying she wants to buy a program made by Cakewalk... She's not been specific as to which one. Her birthday is coming up and I'd like to surprise her with something that will meet her needs.
What I know she needs this program to do:
Integrate and mix vocals and instruments.
Record midi inputs from a keyboard.
Add sound effects, midi notes, etc.
Other that that, this is so far outside of my area of expertise that I might as well be trying to build a stargate. I go to Cakewalk's website and see there are like sixty thousand software packages they offer... Can someone give me the skinny on which ones are the best for her needs?
Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend Sonar, I have Sonar Producer 8 but anything like it should work. If you you go to your local store I'm sure they can guide to something less expensive. ( Sonar 8 is 499+) im sure.....I use it to do exactly what your describing and it works great with my MIDI controller etc. good luck!
I have the most basic (and cheap) Sonar edition, Home Studio, and I love it. I'm nearly positive it does everything you want it to do.
I have Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 3 & it works great. Pro 4 has been out for awhile & it has more features.
