Headphones.... Anyone have a really good set?
I am looking for a new set of headphones. I am not a professional studio type person. However, I do want the best possible sound I can get for a reasonable price. These will mostly be used for listening to music both on the computer and plugging into my amp. I would prefer headphones rather than earbuds.
Does anyone have something they would recommed? My budget is $300 or less.
Thanks.

Beats
Well, the best of the low-end are Koss Porta-Pros in my opinion. They run about $40. The nice thing about them is you get a decent range of sound including bass with the same power efficiency of the tiny crappy things that come with most small devices.
It really depends on what you are listening to and powering with though. An old iPod with MP3s on it just isn't going to make $300 headphones worth it. You'd get more by upgrading the thing you are listening on a lot of times...
Sony mdr7506 they are a studio standard for tracking as well they have a little hype in the low and high end. With a removable 1/4to 1/8 adapter. You are set for all kinds on devices.
I have a set of the Sony MDR (forget which number) that cost about $60. I use them to listen to my modified ipod that can play FLAC files....it's awesome.
AKG-240DF.
studio reference headphones, unbelievably detailed. you do need an honest line level output to drive them satisfactorily, as they are 600 ohm.
I like the AKG 240's also.
my favorites for looong listening sessions, tracking,, dubbing, are the Fostex RP T40RP
really nice, consistent smooth response with no bass bump headphones, and very comfortable to wear a long time.
Atlthough they're only like $60, the Sony MDR-7506 headphones are amazing.
