Need some advice.
I've found a Tracer guitar in a pawn shop. It's in nice condition, but not mint. Wear on the fretboard, dings and scuffs. Used in gigs obviously from the fretboard and neck wear.
They had $699 on it. Clerk said it was a "Vandenburg" model. Nope. Not Vandenberg. Played them and in fact, worked with the man himself in 1989/90 during "Slip of the Tongue" recording sessions. This has the Kahler locking trem, maple fretboard, reverse headstock and some type of translucent paint.
So, he comes back with $475. "But it's American made..." Yeah, so is a Chevy Vega and Ford Pinto... Been looking online and I see everything from $69.00 to $250.00. Guitar Center has one listed at $179 and 249. I'm going back with an offer of $250 with a max of $300. It appears to be the 24 3/4 scale which is what I'm looking for. Wanted a Vandenburg, but have not had luck yet.
I really like this guitar and like it better than the Kramer Focus I just picked up.
You all think I should go beyond $300?
I picked up a Peavey Axellerator a couple years ago for $220 and got a Peavey Nitro in a garage sale for $50 about 8 years ago. The Nitro was a steal but I think the Axellerator was priced right. I'm not familiar with the specifics of the Tracer but I doubt I'd go much over $250.
