Those guys are going to bring skynet to us on a platter.

That is one of the coolest things I have seen.

A Tactom could deploy thousands of them, to attack radar sites, aircraft, TELs with near perfect precision and little warning. Holy fuck.

That figure 8 one could get fun.

"Hey Bill, I think I transposed a 1 with a 0 in line 4679321 of the code."

It becomes a whole lot less impressive when you realize that all of the sensors and computing power are not located on-board the UAV, but in the room.

The only processing the UAV's actually do is their own stabilization, transmit, and receive.

In order to accomplish the maneuvers shown they're tracked and controlled remotely by a separate computer and high def IR motion tracking cameras (like video game companies use to import sports stars into their games).

Watch the video, you can see the rings of motion tracking cameras at different levels around the walls of the room.

Outside of that room, they're nothing more than small remote controlled quadrotors.

Now if they figure out how to track these things in a swarm outside the lab with the same precision and scale (because they have the tech...it's just bulky, expensive, and computing power thirsty) that they're getting in the lab...then we're in trouble.

The control algorithms however...are extremely impressive.

The mocap is only useful for NAV coordinates. Airborne UAVs could use cell or a dedicated LIDAR coordinate system if the GPS doesn't give the level of accuracy necessary. Nothing wrong with remotely coordinating networks of small drones IMO.

It would be cool to see autonomous swarming behavior...I'm sure it's coming.

I know some army pilots that could use that technology for formation flight, cause they suck.

That's pretty freaking cool...

...at least we scorch the sky and the Matrix is online.

Well, that's really the point of the exercise.

Flying IEDs. Enough of those little things could swarm the items you said...all with a small amount of explosive. One or 2 won't make a dent, but get thousands on it, holy shit. You know they have little radar cross sections, too.

I have flown r/c aircraft including airplanes and helicopters for more years than I can count. It is amazing how these quads have absolutely gone crazy over the past year. For a couple of hundred bucks it's now easy to build an aircraft anyone can fly. It will be interesting where it develops in a couple of years.

Run to the lab and develop a weapon to kill these now and make profit later.
