Ok, so I am a casual cigar smoker. I recently joined a buyers club or my local cigar store of choice in Austin Texas (Bobalu Cigars at livecigarrollers.com, if you are interested) but I ould like to branch out some, as Bobalu only carries its own lines. I have found that my favorites have been dominicans and box-pressed maduros, and that I generally go for a creamy, mild smoke over the harsher peppery kinds. That being said, I love more nuanced flavors like leather and wood. I just wanted some recommendations. I am not a novice smoker, but I don't claim to have any in depth knowledge. Please try and keep the per-stick price down below $10, as I am not rich enough to go or the ultra premium stuff.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I only came to this site when I had a bad day and needed a laugh, I would browse General Discussion and solidify my day was much better than most peoples.

I then stumbled across the Humidor sub section and it has been very harmful to my gereral fiscal policies.

I blame Echo, he accepts no blame however.

Try them all and report back, if you can still afford internet service.

For a good mild cigar, try an Oliva Connecticut Reserve. That is all I can really recommend as I don't really smoke mild cigars, but I do love the Oliva Connecticut.

Welcome to the humidor!

Do you want me to ban you? Cause I won't do it, but damnit I"ll send you some really shitty cigars if you keep offering trash advice.

CAO Gold/5 Vegas/Ghurka are all garbage. Let's get the new fella started out on something that won't run him away from the hobby or prematurely burn out his tastebuds.

I got stuck on Partagas Black Labels,
any size. Leave them in the humidor
for 3 months, and they become phenominal.

Try a few of those.

I like anything maduro, but the Partagas
is the pinnacle for me.

Enjoy!

They're still available for now at least.

It's my understanding that the original White label was discontinued and that the replacement is another Connecticut wrapper

Thanks for all the advice/banter. It looks like I'm gonna have to try those montecristos! On a related note, I have been enjoying the local cigars I bought quite a bit. If you're looking for a decent cigar made in the U.S. I think the Bobalu '91 dominican vintage is pretty damn good, and for those who care, the ash is super thick like angel food cake.I also quite enjoyed their box-pressed maduro. I've never done it, but they apparently print custom cigar labels for free if you buy from them. I am not affiliated with them, I just want to chime in to the conversation as best I can.

Also, I bought a glass jar style humidor with a top that seals and locks that has a humidifying device and cedar planks inside, but no hygrometer. Do you think that'll be ok to store my sticks until I need to expand?

Should be OK.....but once these guys wear off on you, a fridge will be in your future!

Or....at least a coolador.....cheap and easy to build them.....directions are at the top of the thread.

OP when you do expand, build one of these at the start. If you don't thank me 6 months down the road I'll buy you a cigar.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_143/1037900_How_To_Build_A_Coolerdor__The_Definitive_Thread__Very_Picture_Intense_.html

Or you could be like most cigar guys who buy a 25ct humidor, then a 100, then 300, then get a cooler/vinotemp.
