I picked up a large 30mm ammo can this week to build a humidor out of. Any ideas on how to get rid of the ammo can smell?
That is going to be difficult.
Spanish cedar will after time but that is why they make poor choices for humidors...
Just try washing it out really well, and leave it open for a while to air out. It worked for me, I outgrew mine, but it makes a great herfador for traveling. I see you're in OK, if you're in the city, Tobacco Exchange in N May sells cigar boxes for $1. It's a cheap source of cedar to line the box. With that and a small bag of silica kitty litter it holds humidity rock steady.
I'm in Tulsa, but I'll check out one of the Cigar Box's to see what they have.
I opened the box and let it air out in the garage and the smell is gone. I think I'll set it onn the covered porch this week to air it out more then scrub it with some baking soda next weekend.
"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." Sounds like a chalange to me.
Just figured I would throw this in here. Wineadors now sells Ammo-Dors and Ammo-Dor kits (for your own box). They can be seen on this page:
