imposible shots show tonight not truthfull !
I just watched the impossible shots show tonight on the robinhood arrow shot.
Booooooooooo, Bull S _ _ _!
What was not told to the viewer was that the arrow in the target was prepared before the shot by adding a hole in the knock. This hole was clearly seen when they showed a close up of the knock. This hole allowed the fired arrow a entry point into the arrow in the target. How far or deep the hole went was unclear, but it was clear that the target arrow had this prepared hole.
I saw the hole!
The show was toughting the show myth busters where they tried to disprove that the shot was possible.
Without a guide hole in the target arrow knock, the fired arrow would by nature just slide past the target arrow even with a perfect center hit.
The hole in the knock and probably a small distance into the target arrow shaft allowed the fired arrow the entry point it needed to enter the arrow.
By not telling the viewer of this prepared knock and arrow, the show was a lie !!!
Didn't see the show to know what kind of arrows were used but, I can say without question that the shot is indeed possible with aluminum or carbon arrows. I've "robinhooded" several of both over the years. It was pretty cool the first 1 or 2 times, becomes quite expensive and a pain in the ass after that.
Well, "Robinhooding" an arrow IS possible.
In fact, I still have my very first one I ever shot when I was 16 or 17, and I shot many more after that.
To add, all mine were done using aluminum arrows, and I can assure you there were NO "guide holes" drilled in mine.
That guy is a dick.
no, aluminum arrows dont count.
the myth and story is based on a wood shaft arrow.
aluminum arrows are hollow and thus very possible to robinhood.
wood arrows are what the shot was based on in the robinhood story in fiction and the show tonight and the myth buster show.
I am not saying the shot is possible or impossible, ONLY that the arrow was prepared to allow the entry.
In the movie they used hollow reeds.

Calm down XM. You have probably forgotten that TV shows are supposed to be entertaining...
I could see asking Jim a question, or pointing out the "pilot" hole, but you went a bit far.
As far as you went with the explanation, I'd guess you have a lot of time on your hands, which doesn't include the opposite sex...
How's it feel to get personal now??!!??

Well if they really want to do it like Robin Hood did then they shouldn't be using wooden arrows with plastic knocks on them. Robin Hood's arrows would have had the nock cut into the wood of the arrow and the wood reinforced with some wrapping of sinew just ahead of the knock point.
The arrows should have looked like this:
So drilling the plastic nock to weaken it is a pretty fair way to do it if you aren't going to hand make authentic arrows.
Thanks for the thread. I saw the show last week and thought it was a nearly impossible shot. The way the arrow flies bending up and down makes me think the bow guy has the toughest challenges on the show.
I did like last week when the shotgun guy was willing to do some of his tricks with a rifle. Shotgun tricks I think are the easiest because of birdshot, you don't have to be as accurate. Do you think he is using regular shotshells or special reloads.
After all the fun here, three answers:
Target Arrow was not prepped in any special way.
And, yes, the "Archer's Paradox", wiggling of the arrow when the force is applied to the rear by the string, makes most anything Byron does "impossible".
The shotgun guys shoot regulation Federal Ammo. Same as required for Trap, Skeet, or Sporting Clays.
