Is it time to buy an AR????

With Early Voting underway in a number of states, it may be time to adjust your gun buying plans to the politics of this election. Two things are possible that could set off panic gun buying:

1.) Obama Wins.

2.) McCain wins, but the Democrats get veto-proof majorities in congress.

The Mainstream Press expects Obama AND a veto-proof congress.

In either case, we know the Democrats are going to come with another "assault weapon" ban. They've said that in their party platform that's been posted at www.ShootingUSA.com for a number of weeks.

I'll predict there will be massive buying of ARs, AKs, and all kinds of high-cap guns and magazines, shortly after the election. We saw this before with Clinton's first ban in 1994. We'll see it happen again as millions of us try to get under the wire with "grandfathered", pre-ban, guns and magazines.

Problem is, there may not be enough guns and magazines to satisfy the demand. I have not heard that any manufacturer is stockpiling guns to supply the likely rush to buy.

A smart guy might want to be in the gun store this week, doing some Christmas shopping, before the folks who aren't paying attention see the new ban coming.

Think about it.

And then go vote for the people who don't want to ban your guns.

Jim

Not a snowball's chance in hell they'll get a veto proof congress. They'll likely get a filibuster proof majority congress though.

I share your concerns. Believe me, I share your concerns.

It is always time to buy and AR or AK, but the prospect of a coming AWB is very strong. Don't get caught with your pants down gentlemen. Mr. Scoutten is a voice of knowledge, experience and wisdom. If you aren't stocking up then you better have a some padding in the seat of your pants. You'll be kicking yourself in a year.

As for early voting, I went and voted for a whole list of people who don't want to ban my guns. In the words of a great man "Go and do thou likewise"!

Built my Dad an AR last year, just ordered my ST22 upper and another 3k of XM193 plus 20 more Pmags. Also sent in $100 to NRA-ILA and $325 to McCain/ Palin. I'm ready to help win this thing, once and for all!

Yeah but for now defeating Obama is everything. I'll be ready to fight the once and for all battle again in 2 years time. Until then donate, educate and go out and shoot!

I agree. I have been panic buying already. I have picked up 2 more stripped lowers and a bunch of magazines in the last few weeks. If I wasn't still in college and made more money, I'd be buying a lot more. I think that any standard capacity magazines and stripped lowers will be difficult to come by after the election. The way I see it is that if Obama gets in or the dems have a super-majority, I've gotten a bunch of stuff while it's still relatively easy to find. If McCain wins and the dems don't have a super-majority, I just have a bunch of new lowers and mags, not really a problem.

They need to be stopped before any of this becomes a reality. I didn't start shooting until after the last AWB expired, when I moved to FL from NJ and a few months later bought my first AR15 from a local shop, figuring I should get it while I can. I hope a generation of new shooters don't have to worry about whether or not they are allowed to exercise their freedoms.

I'm afraid if Obama gets in the best we can hope for is a ban. I believe the Commiecrats will try for outright confiscation. Or, some incredibly prohibitive annual tax & registration fee so we can't afford our guns.

Jim, Great thread. Thanks for doing what you do.

I think you should focus your next few shows on the stuff that's most at risk. It probably won't matter much, us gun guys are the only ones watching anyway.

Your show is a step forward no matter what happens, so you're already doing your part. Thanks.

Yes, although I have a couple stripped lowers here I'm planning on a complete AR but more than likely I'll grab an AK or two in the next month.

Jim et al,

I got the bug about a month and a half ago to buy a stripped lower. I found one at my favorite gun shop and have added two more since then and one for my oldest daughter. (4 total) Bought her a Walther P22 for her 16th birthday yesterday.

We're not a high end family, but I'm going to stretch the dollars and bend a little credit to be prepared no matter which way this goes down. It's just good planning to be ready for what may come next.

Russia is back on the enemies list and playing in South/Central America again even more agressively than before. China has never let up and the Muslims are playing for keeps with no sign of backing off. Even domestic enemies are going full tilt.

I completed my first build yesterday, but I received the wrong upper with the kit I ordered from Pete. (Not a major setback) I think the factories are starting to feel the pressure as most parts are already hard to get or are being reduced in price for major high volume sales.

Would I suggest people buy an AR-15 now? You bet I would. I'm a little perturbed I didn't have the urge 6 months ago. Maybe things felt a little more hopeful before the wonder twins made it to the big battle and we were left with bad and worse for this election. With everything else going on in the economy you make the best point that now is the right time to adjust our spending habits and gun buying plans.

But don't forget your favorite high capacity handgun either.

My final suggestion. Buy all the parts, tools, and accessories you can possibly afford for the next couple of months and then pay them off over the next year. A very good investment no matter what happens.

Im not sure the main assumption in the OP is true....that anything will be grandfathered. I thought the Congress Commies wanted a non-grandfathered law which means all of the enumerated evil features apply no matter when the purchase was made. I could also envision the new law being considerably more restrictive than the first w/o a sunset. Additionally, even if McCain gets the WH it wouldn't surprise me if he'd sign it just to keep the 'I reach across the aisle' thing going. Remember he supported closing the 'gun show loop hole' just to keep the peace. No matter what the out come gun owners have their work cut out for them.

I have seen this coming for some time. I have been stocking up on ammo for the last five years. Friends & relatives have been asking me "what do you want all that ammo for?) they think I'm crazy for having a room desginated just for ammo when you can just go out and buy what you need anytime.

Funny part is lately they have been saying "have you seen the price of ammo lately?
I just smile and say,you haven't seen anything yet.

Jim Scoutten just gave us a shot across the bow. I hope were wise enough to take heed.
Thanks Jim.
