Bob Mundon question
Jim, did Bob really make both of those shots on the first try with the .44 mag and the .38 snubby?
I know he can shoot but at 200 yards with that snubby I am having a hard time seeing him do it on the first shot.
I have hit a Pepsi bottle (20 0z) at a hundred yards with a snubby but not the first shot.
His thumb was a little black from powder too LOL
I gotta piggyback on this question, too!
Nope. He really did it on the first shot... which is why we made a thing out of it. Just plain luck, combined with his years of shooting skill. But it was a first shot hit.

Seems like his thumbs are
always black from powder. I bet he never actually gets them completely clean.
This has nothing to do with the OP's question, but I wanted to share...
1995 NRA national Action Pistol Championship (Bianchi Cup)
Bob Mundon not only shot the entire match with a Colt SAA and put on a little speed draw demo after the match, he had a display in the vendors area. He was selling gunsmithing on single action guns, mods for quick draw and the like.
He had a display cabinet set up with his personal guns and collection there. There were movie guns and collector grade guns sitting there. I couldn't help myself, I wanted to hold a gun that The Duke used in a movie.
So I asked if it would be ok if i picked up one of his guns. He grabbed two, spun them around and handed them to me butt first and said "Fill your hands".
Bob Mundon is beyond cool.

So he stopped himself short of the True Grit quote? It would have been really cool if he said the whole line. |

Not to detract for Bob's abilities, it was a fantastic shot and I'm sure he's done it a million times, but the "trick" (while not being too much of one) is that he doesn't need to actually hit the balloon. All he needs to do is hit the steel target and let the bullet splatter do the rest. Aim for the steel target and it increases the target size 2-3 times. Popping the balloon becomes incidental.

Did you watch the ep?
The bullet strike appeared on the target in the area covered by the ballon. It looked close enough to me.
This may be a bit OT but, I find myself waiting for the Bob Mundon segments. The things he can do with that colt SAA are simply amazing!

I'm glad he's a regular on the show again.
Bob is currently recovering from some back surgery. He's told me he's doing well.
As soon as he's ready, we'll be back in Montana for another round of Impossible Shots and I'm thinking a piece on Bob's other business would be good. He's a renoun gunmith, specializing in single action six guns.

Something I’d like to see him do:
Almost everybody here has see The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
So, as a Don’t Try This at Home, Kids…
Take a rope and tie it around a watermelon. Suspend the watermelon by the rope above the ground. Shoot the rope but not the watermelon. Two shots alowed only. As a bonus put some cowboy hats on some scarecrows. Shoot the hats and not the scarecrows.
Let's see, I think I remember the rope shot in TGBU was with a Henry Rifle, right?
