My new patio trellis (or Pergola).

When I bought the house 8 years ago the back yard was just a dirt patch. Not even a small concrete pad under the sliding door. I have been working on the yard a little bit at a time.

It was time to put up the patio trellis.

Started with the ledger board.

Up go the posts.

Almost done.

I want to clean up a bit before I post the final pictures.

Not what I was picturing. I'd have called that a pergola.

But either way, it looks good! (Vague intentions to do something similar when I re-do our deck.)

Crazy Texas folks.. Don't you bump your head on everything wearing those hats?

..I like the iron work, though.

TEXAS!!?? How dare you? I am from Arizona.

I wanted the metal work because that is what I do for a living. I do this stuff for others every day. Why not make something for myself once in a while?

The iron straps are a nice touch. I finally broke down and got one of those hats after seeing all the laborers around here wearing them. They fucking kick ass.

*Gulp!.. Sorry, I didn't mean it!

What kind of metal did you use?

It is just mild steel. I did however, get it powder coated to help it hold up in the Arizona summer sun. Wet paint only lasts a summer or 2 before it just evaporates.

Very nice!

I have aspirations of building one over my patio this summer albeit 1/2 the size of yours.

I know it's hot here (S. Texas), but it looks really hot in that pic. I'm squinting.
