If you have not been following the news there are a couple of bills out there SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act) that could have far reaching ramifications for the Internet. As typical for Washington bills have unintended consequences. There is vast speculation as to what could happen were they to pass - such as Youtube could be shutdown if ANY copyrighted material appeared on it. The bill is written in a way so that any one could CLAIM - not prove, not take it to court or anything - but CLAIM there was a violation and the site would have to be shut down.

Is this really the way it is? You will have to read the bill to see for yourself. Oh wait - remember that line they said about healthcare? You will have to pass the bill to see what is in it.

These bills are coming up soon - and FAST. Please research these and of you care strongly enough contact your Congress critters.

Here is a link that can provide you with email forms for most Congress folks.
