I have a Pioneer BDP-121 Blu-ray player & as of recently it will not play movies that I have rented from the movie store. It plays the previews, the fan fare, & shows the menu but when I press play it will not. Has anybody experienced this or able to help with a solution?

FWIW it plays MY DVD's & Blu-ray movies.

I'm hoping this is posted in the right forum cause most of the thread titles I've seen are movie review type, not tech.

You're in the right place......You may need to upgrade the firmware? If you go into the "Settings" menu, you should be able to find the "Firmware Info"...

Then go onto the Pioneer website and see if the firmware corresponds to the one in your unit...? As newer movies are released, the tech specs of the machines have to be updated, usually via a USB stick...

My Panasonic Blu Ray has updated its firmware 3 times in the last fortnight ... but mine is connected to the net via LAN cable..

+1 on the firmware upgrade

I got rid of my samsung BD player because of the updates... it was really annoying... especially because as new releases were coming out they were only doing rollup firmware updates maybe once a month if I was lucky... even with the ethernet connection, it took at least 45 minutes per update...

when I finally gave up, I bought a PS3, all updates are done via software and I don't even notice it. every blu ray i've bought has played instantly...

Well I'll be!! I did not know there was such a thing. I looked into it & there was a update for my player. It took me a couple tries to get it updated cause I did not completely understand what I needed to do on the computer end of it, but I got it & it is playing the movies in question now.

Thank you guys!
