Synopsis - Not sure how to describe this one.
I won't recommend this one. You're on your own. It worked for me, but I'll bet it's a love or hate it movie. It might matter what you bring to the party in terms of your growing-up experience whether it strikes a chord with you or not.
One thing is absolute though, the cinematography is as good as it gets. The kind of movie where you could pause it at almost any random point and it would make a great photograph.
I saw this movie twice and was emotionally drained both times.

I know what you mean. It could be that I had a similar experience with my father growing up and I lost a young (27 year old) family member tragically a couple years ago.
My wife rented it...............afterwards I just sat there wondering what I had just watched. The cinematography is very good, but I didnt relate to the story

My take: The movie was mostly from the viewpoint of the oldest kid's memory. We remember things in small segments like those in the movie. Brad Pitt's character was probably like a lot of fathers. He was both good and bad. He taught his boys a lot and was an involved father. But he was also volatile and somewhat unpredictable. To an adult, he seemed fairly normal. To a kid, he was frightening.
There was also the aspect of the middle boy who had died. I think the end was a visual interpretation of all of them "letting him go".
I don't know, that's what I got from it.
Definitely not for everyone.
