Is it worth it to see Phantom Menace for the 3D?
Anyone seen it yet?
I'll take the kids to see Episodes 4-6 in the theater, but we own all of them on DVD. Unless it's just mind-blowing, I'm not sure we'll catch 1-3.
Jar Jar Binks....................in 3D...............think about it.
Oh hell naw.
I think I would rather chew molten glass than ever being forced to watch Jar Jar Binks ever again.
Fuck you Lucas!
Never seen it.
But I still know the answer is absolutely not.
I was wondering just how many times they could "improve" it..

to get it back into the cinemas....
The originals were ground breaking, I even tolerated the prequels for their special effects... but this, screams of desperation....

It wasn't worth seeing in 2D.

The sad part is they'd probably sell way more tickets if they just re-released the original, untampered with versions of 4-6.
well then i'll be the voice of dissent as usual. I saw it at midnight, in costume. I felt it was worth it simply because it wasn't cheap 3d tricks. It just enhanced the experience for me. added depth to certain scenes. It's worth it for the chance to see Star Wars on the big screen, with all the sounds.
But as always,

That sounds terrible. Enhancing the experience of watching episode 1 is like enhancing the experience of someone smashing your balls with a sledgehammer.
Do you wear a fursuit?

Keep it civil... each to their own... CoC 6 is not to be messed with!
May be in 3D but it's still a ....

Most of the above. In other words, no.
i went and saw it.
no, its not worth it.

I agree with Bunnyassassin
And PBR
remember they did that iaround 1997 with afew added scenes and called them the specail addition
"Check this out! Episode One, Jar_Jar_Binks. This guy is going to be the shit !! "
2D x 0 Worth = 3D x 0 Worth
And PBR remember they did that iaround 1997 with afew added scenes and called them the specail addition
I'm talking about the exact originals, nothing added, nothing deleted.
There is a part of me that feels like I should go see it. I mean I've seen all the others and 3D Star Wars sounds like a neat way to experience the Star War universe.
Then I remember just how bad EP1 really was. How devastating it was to watch that movie and see something so important in my childhood tortured to death.
When EP2 and EP3 come out in 3D I'll watch those, but I can't stand Jar Jar Binks. Can't stomach it 3D or not.
Man, how could Lucas so badly #$%@ up those movies? I have seen the analysis from Red Letter or whatever on youtube, but it never answers the fundamental question of "WTF were you thinking Lucas?" Why?
The only answer that gives me any peace is to say "Lucas was killed and replaced by an Evil Twin."
I like the movie. I've only seen it in 2D.
I like Jar Jar.
I'd like to see the 3D version, too.
I'm of the school of thought that Jar Jar had to be as stupid as he was made to be, so that there would be a scapegoat for the fall of the Republic. Its Jar Jar who suggests giving the Chancellor Executive power.
it also had the second best lightsaber fight, and the only one with an actual martial artist.

Different strokes and all. I'm of the school of thought that Jar Jar was one of the worst characters in the history of cinema and that movie featured the most ball numbingly boring choreography out of any of the movies. Well-executed, no doubt, but sterile and emotionless. Sword fighting is not what made the originals good. The fact that characters like Luke and Vader swing lightsabers at each other is secondary to their emotional connection and conflict.

True, but there isn't an emotional connection, or conflict, til the end of the second movie for the most part. TPM was basically a setup. Oh shit the Sith are back, and hey look at this kid, he's got a super strong connection to the force, but he's a little whiney"

That's exactly the problem. We don't care who wins the light saber battles in TPM because we don't care about any of the characters because we can't connect with them on any level. The only emotions the audience has regarding any of the characters is contempt or at best annoyance. There is no emotional connection between any of the characters on screen with each other or the audience. Even the Sith subplot makes no sense and is poorly developed. And we have this whiny bitch kid who might be the one "the prophecy said would bring balance to the force." But what exactly that means is never explained. You can kind of infer that they mean
after Darth kills the emperor and Luke discovers what little good remains in him, but this isn't dealt with in any way during the next 4 movies. The Jedi predict danger regarding this kid but don't explain why.
for the love of god why?
dont watch this, it only makes George think hes right.
I took a day off and took my 5-yr old twin boys on Monday. I thought they should see the series in the theatre. They thought it was pretty awesome and I enjoyed it too (I saw 4 in the theatre when it first came out - still my favorite).
They came home and played with light sabers and blasters, followed up by a BB gun lesson request. A good day.
And by the way, WTF new has George done lately?

It's stupid though to think out of that HUGE Senate that this Chancellor who has engineered a war and secretly raised an army of clones couldn't get anyone other than Jar Jar to propose granting him Executive Power. Why woudl you use Jar Jar to do that anyways when he would have almost NO political connections or pull with the other Senators since he's just a proxy not the actual Senator.

You must be young.
You were not there for the original three or there is no way on earth you could like Jar jar.

1965 Look at Life (short)
If I dated every shit I took I'd have an impressing looking list as well...
Original Star Wars + First 3 Indiana Jones >> most other movies
other crap falls quite a bit lower.
The only part of TPM I liked was the interaction between Obi-wan and Qui-gon. We see where Obi-wan got his demeanor from. Also, we see that where Qui-gon was impulsive and seemed to act more on gut feeling, Obi-wan was a lot like him, yet learned to act more on concrete information and not so much follow that gut feeling, which probably had a lot to do with the fall of Anakin, who was more like Qui-gon. We're left to wonder if Qui-gon had lived and trained Anakin, could his fall have been avoided? I really enjoyed seeing Obi-wan as a young man! Because you knew from the originals that he was a badass! If you take Jar-jar out of the movie and replace his story with Darth Maul's story, TPM is a good movie.
And how can you not know what "bring balance to the force means?" Do you read the books? Thousands of Jedi, only 2 sith. Balance man, balance!

I didn't think it was anything special but my 6 year-old loved it. I thought I was going to get away with NOT paying to see them all again. Guess not.
Unless by 3D it means completely remade in almost every way
than I just dont see how it could ever suck more time from my life.
I waited years for that move
.and just sat there in shock for 45 minutes after it was over.
How could Lucas do that to people?

Me, too. Frankly, I only cringed a few times now that I've accepted the fact that the film is utter crap.
But the story really does just suck. Like the Jedi Council. Who are these clowns? Yoda is a fucking joke. He 'senses fear' in Anakin and has his little fear->anger->hate->suffering bullshit moment. But later he tells Obi Wan that while Anakin may be the Chosen One, he
fears what might happen if they train him. What a hypocrite! So you just want to turn the kid, the most potentially powerful Force user ever, loose without a mother on Coruscant in a Galaxy where you know the Sith have returned?
Great plan, Yoda.

Yeah, strategy was not Yoda's strong suit apparently.
I just don't get why do episode one with such a young boy? Episode two has Luke as a young man in his late teens/early 20's. That's way too much time inbetween the two stories and way out of wack from the time period between episodes IV, V, and VI.
There is NEVER the training mentor relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. You never get him doing the whole Luke Skywalker learning to do a headstand on one arm while using his mind to lift rocks or learning how to use a light saber for the first time. The journey of boy into Jedi is never told and for God's sake that's the whole story to the final three episodes with Luke.
The only excuse I can see is that Lucas never really bothered to chart out Anakin's storyline ahead of time. Maybe his heart just wasn't into doing more Star Wars? People change and maybe Lucas is now just more happy doing his special effects thing than anything else?
i've started watching the animated Clone Wars series.. it adds quite a bit of depth.
