Sherlock Holmes - A Game of Shadows
Fun!
Lots of gun goodness, much of which is horribly incorrect from a technical perspective*. Nonetheless, a fun movie.
* Like using a 12" cannon at a range of well under a mile and not using direct fire only elevating the bore to 50 degrees = lololol!
Liked the first one, so here's hoping I like the 2nd.
It looks good.
I just never envisioned SH to be such a hand-to-hand combat expert.
They are really portraying him to be like Neo from the Matrix or Ip Man or something.
I though he was 'just' a detective...

I saw it and it was great, tons of action and fun
Its a bit far fetched, but remember its entertainment not a Bio.
Free
I liked it, it is far fetched but not in a PC manner.
His fighting style is more of a chess move rather than martial art.
for the matinae price it was worth it.
Great Ending!
No one would go to a big budget Sherlock Homes film where he prattles on about how some woman's fingers are obviously flattened from typing which means blah blah blah. It was a fun period action film.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did write that Homes and Moriarty died when they fell off a cliff next to a waterfall in Switzerland. There's even a "memorial"
Reichenbach Falls.... or did Holmes fake his death?
Anyhoo, trying to convince the wife to go one night this week.... failing that, I'm flying solo... quite looking forward to it...

I could be talked into going again, swing by the house and pick me up

Lemmee fuel the jet....
Good fun.
I'd rent it when it came out on DVD, but probably wouldn't buy it. Re-watchability is fair to good.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle fully intended to end Holmes at Reichenbach Falls, but the public outcry caused Conan Doyle to re-think this ill-conceived move and he brought Holmes back for many more adventures.
I am a Holmes aficionado from way back (more than 40 years since I read my first one) and I was well pleased with both movies. Downey did a very impressive job in the role, not Jeremy Brett (more physical and not as overtly cerebral) but each actor brings his own style to the part. I was disappointed at Irene Adler's fate, given that in the books she wasn't really referenced for more than a few stories.
I couldn't really get into it at first. It was too contrived for me, more so even than the original, which I enjoyed. As an example, during the scene on the train fighting the soldiers, when there was suddenly a flashback to show how Holmes had turned the tables on them from the very beginning... I had to roll my eyes. However, the cinematography during the climactic run through the woods was truly incredible. I liked the 'modern' weapons being produced, and the storyline did a fair job of keeping me guessing. Moriarty was a suitably worthy opponent.
I liked it a lot. I was very impressed with how well Jude Law and Robert Downey played off each other's characters.

Sherlock Holmes as an action movie star? I never thought I'd see that.
I just got back from the matinee.
Really liked it. I will be buying it when the dvd is released. The ending had everyone chuckling.
I really thought Prof. Moriarty looked a lot like V. I. Lenin.

I completely agree. We saw it last night, and I think it's a little better than the first one. Downey and Law seen perfect in these roles. I hope the third installment is not too far down the road. It looks like Downey has at least two more
Iron Man appearances lined up, so we may not see another
Holmes until 2014. Yikes.

Actually, Robert Downey Junior did start doing Wing Chun as part of his rehab. Thats how he was finally able to kick the drugs for good. My instructor knows his instructor.

Two more Iron Man movies? I thought the Avengers movie next summer was going to be the last of the set/series. Can't wait to see that one too. THE is the perfect Tony Stark. As well as the perfect Sherlock Holmes.
