 "Courageous", openning weekend = excellent!

Howdy All,

The wife and I went to see "Courageous" today, the 4th movie by Sherwood Productions (Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof), and we absolutely loved it. If you're a parent, you've got to see this. If you might be a parent in the future, you've got to see this.

We have a wonderful 2-year old daughter. This movie is a reminder of what a powerful force a father is to a child.

***** 5 stars in my book.

Anyone else see it?

ETA: IMDB Link - BA

It was excellent, and I'd be thrilled if every male in America went to see it.

Pretty good flick. Interesting thing that I have seen come out of this movie is, many guys on other sites say the wives are now ready to do some preping ,since seeing the movie.

Food , water , arms, medical, other survival supplies for emergencies. Some people on line have stated they have been contacted by local government ,and told that each family should prepare with 3 days of food and water. This is in case we have have a natural or manmade disaster. [earth quake , emp ,flood , major power failure ,etc.]

Seriously - I think you have the wrong movie. This is a Christian based movie on the topic of Fatherhood.

I saw the preview when I went to see Cowboys & Aliens. Honestly, it seemed to have lower production values than any made for tv movie I've ever seen. It also looked like it would be really sappy and cheesy. Did I get the wrong impression from that trailer?

Yes, you did.

It's an excellent movie about the important role of FATHERS in a family.

IIRC, the production company is actually based out of a church and the budget was something like $2million.
I haven't seen it yet, but I want to. Ironically the kids keep me from going to the theatre lately.

My daughter and wife say I really need to see this movie. One question I must ask.......is it better acted than Fireproof?

I thought fireproof was pretty good, but, yes, the acting is better in this one. Don't go see it for the acting; go see it for the underlying themes.

The message in Fireproof was wonderful. I just thought the presentation detracted from it.

My wife and I both feel it is indeed better than Fireproof. Excellent movie, especially if you have children.

I saw it tuesday night. I can honestly say I almost cried 3 times and felt "chills" another 2 times.. Ignore the acting and you'll see the message loud and clear..

Want to get to it next week, is it family film, or should we look up a sitter?

Bro and Law brought his 10 y/o son along-He thought it was great. I'd maybe skip on younger kids-YMMV.

The best Sherwood Effort thus far, and as a father of 4 (#5 due in 27 days) I'd like to encourage anyone reading this thread to go and see.

I came home and wife was curious about movie...I summed it up like this...."If you have a penis, you need to see the film".....

I plan to see again with my bride!

I'd suggest a sitter so you and the wife can see it alone. The "message" is for the fathers, and wives indirectly.

Tip: bring tissues because those damn theaters are dusty!

I bought the book, and am reading it with my sons. I won't say it is "better" but it does really flesh out some issues, like kids smoking marijuana.

I just finished this movie about 30 minutes ago and I can safely say that you did not get the wrong impression. Watched Fireproof with the wife back when it came out and even she didn't like that movie. The message is good but it is really ruined by the horrible acting and unreal scenarios and actions taken. I understand it is a movie and some stuff is done for "dramatic effect" so I won't list the serious problems with officer safety in that movie.

sorry, I am not trying to poop in your thread but just being honest that I disliked this movie. It has to have more than a genuine and good message to be as great as everyone is saying it is.

Just watched it, very good movie, and even though the acting was not the best I can still say that this movie moved me more then any other film I have seen in the last 15 years.
