Four WASPS wearing stereotypical clothing of and mocking another culture's Christmas music shares love and the Gospel exactly how?

I don't get it. I probably never will. Imagine if you were a recent hispanic transplant to the area looking for a place to worship; would you feel welcome? There is so much good news to focus on at this time of year with so much beautiful music, why would you portray fat Mexicans wearing their serapes and sombreros as if they just woke up from their "siesta" to sing this song? What's next, going back to their nap?

Fun is fun. But at the expense of others? From a church? I don't even want to see how other cultures are depicted.

It's not just your church. Over 95% of the church congregations here in America serve only one race or culture. (Mine included) Jesus gave us the Great Commission to go out to preach to ALL nations, baptizing them, etc. If you read The first three verses of Acts 13 you will discover a wonderful thing about the church in Antioch. Look:

1Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a member of the court of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.(ESV)

Here it is about 48 AD or so and look at the diversity of the LEADERSHIP, let alone the congregation! Simeon, an African and most likely black, Lucius, most likely a Roman, Manaen a guy who is well connected in Herod's court and Barnabas, a Jew and Saul (soon to be Paul) who was not only a Jew, but a Pharisee! The church was being spread throughout the world indeed! This was no plain vanilla congregation, they were as diverse as you can get! And they still were one in purpose! They were growing the church! Personally, I believe the Holy Spirit was making a point when He inspired the writer to note these people!

Now, look at us. Can you see my point? Is everyone TRUELY welcome in our churches? If they look like us, act like us, sure. But if they're different, dirty perhaps, not as polished or from a different culture, do we truely welcome them with open arms?

I guess we can full on Hijack this thread........

I totally understand your point, although I don't agree in this context of the video.

You are correct about serving only one race or culture but we sure do try to reach out.

I am a member of a church that is 100% white as far as adults go. The church however is located in the poorest and blackest neighborhood in Charleston, WV (west side). We made the tough choice of staying where we were instead of moving to a growing prominent area. There may be a handful of the older widow women who still live in the neighborhood and walk to church, otherwise the parking lot is full of nice vehicles from the congregation that live 20+ miles or more away. We consider the neighborhood a mission field in itself. We do a good job of reaching out to the local children and offer programs that they enjoy. 98% of the kids that show up for our youth programs are black and live what I guess could be considered a typical ghetto lifestyle. We get the children involved in activities that you would think a parent would show up to watch and enjoy but it never happens. We have knocked on every door in the neighborhood over the years and continue to hear the same thing from residents, "oh, you go to the church were all the rich people go."

Two years ago we built a million dollar addition with a gymnasium and other outreach tools. We sent out 6000 brochures to the surrounding neighborhoods for Upward basketball and cheerleading this year (our 3rd year), we barely got 0.5% response. I don't think our church will last another 3 years. Most of our congregation is elderly. My wife and I are in our 30's, the only other couple our age is her brother and his family. My three kids and his baby boy are pretty much the only kids attending the childrens Sunday School program. We are at a loss on what to do to bring in the nieghbors. We are now actively trying to reach beyond the neighborhood to survive.
