 Clash of Faith and Football

"Just last year, Tebow drew national attention for his antiabortion commercial broadcast during the Super Bowl. In the past three weeks, he has become the most discussed and most polarizing figure in sports, strange territory for a replacement player on a last-place team. Opponents mocked his celebration pose — kneeling, in prayer, which became an Internet meme known as Tebowing — and his coach offered a lukewarm vote of confidence. "

Daniel 6:5 comes to mind
Then these men said, "We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God."

To me there is no clash as I have no interest in sports anymore. Most games are intentionally played on sunday, and all I see is stupidity and corruption from what is basically a kids game. I stopped watching all sunday sports 20 years ago and now I don't even miss it. The mocking and condescension toward Tebow and others is alarming. If those that oppose God thing that they can get away with that then what else will they think they can get away with?

If he weren't so open about his faith he wouldn't be mocked, and there would be no controversy. If he was screwing famous actresses and being open about those things, he would be applauded. That a successful man of faith can't be held in as high of esteem than his peers, is a very sad commentary on our society.

I hope he keeps doing it, would be a shame if he caved to the atheists and the politically correct elements.

As do I. Hopefully he can inspire other young athletes with faith as his to be just as open and unashamed to profess it to all.

He's definitely giving the doubters and haters a lot of crow to chew on every week.

^This

As a big Bronco fan I know that the people were making fun of Tebow and not religion. Now many people are doing his pose but it's in tribute to Tebow. Every week I must have 10 facebook friends at the game posing like Tebow out front of the field.....now it's in a good way.

Go Broncos!!!

While that is true, they make fun of Tebow because he's a Christian. If he were a Muslim and was bowing down and praying to Allah after every touchdown, you better believe not a single person would be mocking him, and if they did, they would be fined and probably suspended for a game.

Political correctedness is such a joke in this country.

The even sadder thing to me is how many Christians 'hate' Tebow. The idolatrous relationship that so many people have with their football teams in this country is sad.

They are maiking fun of his signature pose, not his faith, religion, etc. Lots of people copied Terell Davis here in Colorado when he he had his mile high salute.

Anyway, like I said above, people are coping his pose right now because they like him and we are winning. Stop playing the Christian bashing card.

If Tebow had a pose where he stood on one foot a quacked like a duck then that is what people would be doing.....it has nothing to do with religion.

I disagree, and I'm not the only one who's been noticing.

Chuck Klosterman

Jen Engel

Neither of them are even Christians.

There wasn't an uproar around the country and in the media about what Terrell Davis did now was there. There isn't an uproar about any of the other "signature" celebrations around the league, except for a couple that were truly outrageous, like the cell phone incident. Most of these other dances, celebrations etc, are very animated and made to draw attention to themselves. Tebow, on the other hand, is making a quiet, small gesture, that draws attention not to him, but to God. Attention is drawn to him simply because it has become so out of place in our society for a man to take a knee and bow to God in prayer. It's much more common for grown men to gyrate and dance around like animals in heat. Sadly, in today's society, dancing around in a cocky manner is the more acceptable of the two. So, getting to the point, it is about religion. It is all about religion.

NFL players kneel and point their finger to God all the time after they score a touchdown and there is not a word spoken about it. It's about Tebow, and not his religion.I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
